Club Moollon

Check out the natural light pics in the photo album I posted above. I think the color is pretty consistent. No flash in any of those photos except for the one of the finish chip (which I'm proud of btw).

Nice Serek too! I've got a Burgundy Midwestern and it's an absolute thumper! Can't wait to have a Moollon sitting next to it.

Yes! That's a MW2 with the B-90, dummy coil on push-pull, and tapewounds. Outrageously great. Records like a dream as the Moollons do but with its own dank, dirty, dark chocolate tone. Did sessions recently with the P-IV and the MW2 and they were both shining.

I love the tape wounds on my Serek. I go back and forth between them and flats. The Serek's record phenomenally and work so well with effects. Just a blast to play. I'm hoping for similar quality in the build with my Moollon!

I put my down payment in today to get it started!!!

For me personally, on my personal Moollon P-V, I am loving NYXL roundwounds. Did I mention it was a personal choice?
I've used all kinds of flats on P-basses and J-basses and I can say that I would not enjoy flats on my P-V as much as the NYXLs.

That said, Kenny, I'm interested to know what brand of flats you are using. I could imagine enjoying flats on a J-V. My starting point would be Thomastik flats. I wonder if Andi/YJ have a preference for certain flats.

Certainly personal taste. And there’s no right answer. Using La Bella Low Tension Flats on the G to E string and a La Bella Deep Talkin Bass on the low B. The 1.28 regular tension is great on the B.

When it comes to strings, gauges and brands, I feel each bass (brand/model) react differently to different brands and gauges of strings. My staring point is Hard Rockin Steels for rounds and Chromes for flats. Having said that, I have TI flats on a P bass, La Bella Hofner shotlrtscale flats on a violin bass, Cobalts on another etc., etc. The bass and my ears let me know.

My 2 cents...worth every penny.

Here’s a lengthy iPhone shot Motown thing with the PV w/ flats. There’s some upper register (Sir Duke) stuff later in the video.
Use headphones or inears.

I love chromes and also labella deep talking flats. Switched to labellas to recently but its tough to go wrong either way.

I threw the fender flats on that came with my 1963 avri and they are awesome too. Play very similar to chromes and are a great match for that bass.

they just make the bass come alive.
I had been using rounds on my Moollon P-IV, but once I threw on a set of chromes it totally came alive for me as well. It’s like this Moollon P was made for flats. For reference, I used the same flatwound strings on my Fender P and wasn’t nearly as stoked as when I put them on the Moollon. So, I wouldn’t use your experience with flats on other basses and assume it’ll be the same with your Moollon. Definitely worth the try if you want old school thump.

I wonder if Andi/YJ have a preference for certain flats.
Andi told me YJP uses Fender flatwound strings as his top choice for flats. And DR pure blues is his top choice for round wounds.

La Bella DTF's are always a solid choice for a P. However since finally taking the leap on the Thomastik's I probably won't use another flat. They're on my Sadowsky MV4 and sound and feel unbelievable. Definitely will throw a set on my Moollon once it arrives....It's going to be a loooooonnnnnngggg 5/6 month wait :meh:
