Copper gold. According to Andi this is the final formulation for Copper Gold going forward. It's a little closer in color to Capri Orange than I was expecting, but it is obviously a metallic finish so it will look different. This finish is also seemingly difficult to accurately photograph, so I'm looking forward to seeing it in person.

I've been a "Moollon lurker" for a bit now and am pretty close to getting my first on order. I did have one question that I'm hoping you guys can speak to...How are the back of necks finished? (Gloss/satin?) And for those that have had their basses for awhile, how has that finished broken in?

The backs of the neck and the whole headstock are finished in Nitro. Breaks in really nice and isn't as sticky as some Fender AVRI's or NOS CS basses I've played.

they come with a gloss neck finish, but they will accommodate request to sand it to a satin where the hand meets the neck before it leaves the shop. I did mine this way, it's only 3 months old, so still needs lots of wear time.

I did it to both of mine with only a grey Scotchbrite. It worked brilliantly, and my Moollons feel like my Sadowsky neck. I can’t recommend it enough.

Hey @Ultradust or anybody in the know: Is there a preferred source for a white pearloid P pickguard that would fit the P-Classic? Guitar Parts Factory carry them but I don’t know if they require modifying.

Thanks for asking, as this is inquiry we receive from time to time. Regardless of our 3-ply guards being cut from tracings of YJ's own mint 1960 Precision Bass we still haven't seen anything that's a 100% match from existing "vintage correct" pieces. Being pre-CBS, it was proper nitrocellulose, so natural "shrinkage and migration" had occurred, something YJ was very clear to point out to me.

There's obviously no way to check the exact shape screw hole positions it was right out of the factory, and although we can't prove a negative and say that there isn't one out there somewhere that will be a perfect match, I myself and a few others I've known have had better luck paying for proper 1:1 custom cuts from a blank (I'm referring to my J-IVs, traced from YJ's 1962 Jazz Bass), rather than trying to find the closest to a vintage by buying ill-fitting guards...which I've done more than once >_< I've also laid what I've found at shops over original Moollon guards just in case, and invariably more than a few holes will be at least 1mm off.

As I mentioned I have been playing the P-IV Classic with pretty high action, just as it came.
The neck relief from Moollon was set at 14/1000, and the average string height was around 8/64.
I set the relief to 12/1000 [1/2 turn of the truss rod] and dropped string height to around 6/64. Now she plays low and fast, with a smidge of rattle. I'll let the bass settle for a few days and recheck it. I'm curious if most of the Moollons TB'ers received, are shipped with high action. The truss rod turned easily and smoothly.

Bass came today (pics coming) the neck looks to be dead flat, I don’t have the tools to properly measure relief. I’m mostly an upright player, so my sense of playability is colored by that, but it feels very easy to play with “medium” action.

Just as a little note (in case folks ask), the finish on Jeremy's lovely P-Classic IV was one of YJ's rather acceptable happy accidents this year, in that it was part of a small batch of Olympic White builds that came out much creamier than normal, almost akin to the Vintage White he'd done in years past.

Jeremy was kind gracious enough to give the OK on it, and so YJ proceeded with the build as normal. Note the "proper" Olympic White 1966 J-Classic IV neck to show contrast in hue:

I wish I could say that the above Vintage White-ish finish as completed would be a part of future rotation, but YJ mentioned that it probably won't.

That creamy white looks awesome. I'd be more than fine with a "happy accident" like that.
