Love Blair's PJ!! It is so classic! You know, I am suddenly getting the "what if's" looking at all these great basses. Like what if I went PJ on my order. Yet, I recall the dicussion being thst it is a bit more scooped tone. Owning 2 Spectors, maybe I should stick to SC JJ.

Also... thanks to Roger for using larger side dots on the neck. It's a small touch, but makes a big difference to me, because my busiest band has a crappy lightshow. It's probably because we play a lot of modern rock, but we're all in our 40's and 50's.![]()
+1 and I find these helpful also

don't be afraid to go PJ. Plenty of mids on my ash/mp PJ4...and I have my single coiled JJ for good measure.
Thanks for the info. I really like my Metro Will Lee (ash/maple) and the comfort of the small body/neck have made me want to replace my full size bodied Vintage 4 (alder/maple). I thought I'd decided but I am intrigued at getting the PJ configuration in the small body with the WL neck profile and alder/rw. That would give me a really versatlie group of basses. Yet, I'm wondering if I should just stick with the sc jj setup. I am definitely looking for a warmer, vintage sound out of this one with a nice thick low mid punch. I think the closer you get to pulling the trigger on a custom order the more you get the "what if's"!!!!!!
For me, either model (and I own and love both... in fact, I just gigged both last night) is just as versatile as the other. Just really depends on if you want a P with a modern variation as an option, or a J. Because one will never sound just like the other. There's only about a (very roughly speaking) 33% tonal overlap. Gotta' keep that in mind.I like them a lot. I also owned a SC JJ5, and of the the three, I prefer either of the PJs over the SC bass. To my ear, adding the nature of a jazz-style bridge PU to the classic P is a perfect variation on the classis theme. It is general classic in nature but with a lot of diversity in tone. It is my opinion that you can cover more ground tonally with a PJ than any JJ config I know of.
I'd say this is also true for the HC JJ setup... basically, there's (obviously) no way to emulate the more traditionally based J sound with both pickups on, so it really boils down to what tonal base you want. Clearly, you're in the PJ camp. I generally gravitate towards the JJ camp, but still very much love the PJ.All that said, the SC JJ setup is what it is. If that's the sound in your head, there's not really many other ways to get there.
Personally I think P basses hang better on women than J basses do, in general. That upper horn tends to get in the way on a full-sized J.![]()
This woman prefers the hang of a J over a P...But I can attest to a full size J body being a little bulkier than I like, which is exactly why I love the smaller upper horn of the Sads. Roscoes have a similar design in that respect, very comfy body those.
