Here you go!! Those are Gotoh OEM Sadowsky bridge I believe before Roger switched to his Hipshot Sadowsky exclusive bridge uses currently.

Maybe this is old news and I missed the topic...but I just got home from a long business trip. I like to watch Survivor so the love of my life recorded the last 3 episodes of the Nicaragua season.

Anyway on the last show they are in the studio to award the winner. It looked like the bass player for the show band is playing a quilt-top Standard. Was I seeing things?:confused:

I saw that at the time (wife is a fan), but didn't comment on it as I was under the impression that almost all of the bass players in the house bands on TV play Sadowskys these days, LOL.

These pix of my 2005 P5 are at least a year old, and Blackie's become worse for wear... not like David Hill's, but then I'm not nearly as busy!

Early this year I sanded the remaining finish off the back of Blackie's neck because I agree with Roger that "naturally oiled maple" (my words) feels best. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], this poses no danger to the neck.

Roger recommended a gunstock oil called "Tru-Oil" for his bass necks that have had the finish removed.(for those wanting to oil the maple). Have you given any thought to giving that a try Ken?

That's about what both of mine would look like if I didn't keep a Scratch Pad on each one, although soon those will be worn through too!

That's cool about the neck finish, I hadn't seen that before. I keep mine from getting too glossy by using a Scotchbrite pad every so often, and I just noticed some discoloration on the RV4, so I must have gone through the finish in some spots.

I also show a lot of bridge pickup wear on the MV5, probably just from slamming on it with a heavy pick.

TruOil works very nicely.
As a reference point, you'll end up with something close to MusicMan's oiled finish that way, which I think feels nice.

Congratulations, that bass kills. I played it when Elderly had it for sale a few years ago. I actually started a thread about it, it sounded better to me then any 60's J I've ever played, and I've played several. I actually bookmarked that page on ebay when it was listed, just hopping that I'd hit the lotto and could press buy it now.:D

Anyone know if this grizzled weapon is single-coil or hum-cancelling?

Thanks for the reminder, Blair. I may well give that a try, but the neck feels great as-is, and I don't mind the look of grungy maple. As Jamerson said, the dirt keeps the funk. :bassist:

Maybe I'll leave Blackie's neck bare, sand and oil Red, and leave the nitro on Whitey.

I love the matte nitro finish, but as you've also discovered it becomes glossy from playing wear. The Scotchbrite pad is a great idea.

I'm sure you're right that the discoloration on your neck indicates that the finish is wearing through, but again, I agree with Roger that it's a desirable result of the thin nitro finish.
