Aww, thanks guys. That band is more about energy than finesse :bassist:, but we have fun.


And I love the Sadowsky MM5. Very different flavor from the P5s, but just as cool. Thanks again to Roger and Kevin for making a dream bass come true.

Since things are slow here... I happened to catch an interesting Sadowsky in the recent LowEnd shop tour thread here, upper right:

The current 24F is so much sleeker and sexier, but this one is an interesting prototype.

I saw that bass and was intrigued. He's tried it on ebay a couple of times.

I love the look. Although the EMGs scare me as does the description of the thicker neck. To my hands, the "modern" modern neck is absolute perfection.

He may be a bit optimistic on his price as well, but of course all things are negotiable.

Speaking of moderns, I did a rehearsal Sunday afternoon for a worship gig that is very rock oriented. Most of the stuff is driving modern, heavier stuff. I played my modern for another service Sunday, so since had it, I didn't swap out for the PJ that I have been using on that gig.

I have to say I got a KILLER heavy rock tone with that bass. It blew all my preconceived notions about what is supposed to be for what. The guys I was playing were very impressed with the tone. It was a lot tighter, more powerful low end than the PJ, and surprisingly cut the mix as well if not better.

I really need to bite the bullet, sell the PJ and order me another modern with different PUs and different placement. I like everything about those basses more than the V lines. Not knocking the Vs of course. The moderns are just perfect to me.

I'm surprised you sound surprised. The Moderns are ALL about cutting mixes. The one I had I could literally turn my amp down from where I had it with the JJ and still hear myself clearly. Just didn't have the same big round bottom as a JJ/PJ bass, which is what I ultimately decided I missed too much.

The other thing that I don't think is sung enough about them is their neck pickup. Man, you solo that neck pickup and it is ALL rock and roll. IMHO it sounds fairly P-like in many ways. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the Moderns are like the PJ's except take a step further in the midrange/aggression and with a much tighter bottom.

I'd love to hear a Modern with the JJ config, but really, my vintage/24 is pretty much that, save maybe the thinner neck (which I would order on an NYC 24, as well as the narrower nut.. this still may happen... maybe even this year.)

And I know what you mean about just ridiculous playability. All Sadowsky basse play perfectly IMHO, but the Moderns just seem to be one notch slicker.

Anyway... cool stuff. :)

The modern is unique... I bought it with a hope that it can sound like a Jazz with some tweaks, It can be with the blend pot moved just slightly to the front PU, I like the slap sound of that setting too. But it's just one of a kind sound, in a good way...

It always cut through a mix, I gigged without my MarkBass rig last sunday, got a cheap amp provided, no problem! The sound I love and need is still there.

But since I still need a vintage sound once in a while I custom made my own Jazz Bass at a local luthier (can't afford another sadowsky at the time :crying:). I'll post the 'Family pic' soon :)

Hi guys, I saw some pics of some of us that has a modern-5 with Nord Big Singles on them, I'm curious, how do they sound compared to the stock PUs?

I've been wanting to switch over to the single coils just to hear the difference, and Kevin Drexler suggest I should put on the Big Singles.

But before I go too far and spend $$$ I want to know the comparison/first hand experience from y'all...
