Hi guys...
Can anyone (Or Roger) tell me what kind of pickups is inside the soapbar shell of the Modern 5-24?
Is it a humcancelling single coil (the same as the non-soapbar shell pickups), or another kind of humbucking pickups?

Sure I am!Yeah, can't tell you how many times I've checked that list specifically the PJ's and that Trans. Black Modern. Heck, an RV5-PJ would make a nice addition as well. YOU'RE NOT HELPING!
BTW, another thing you can do is just put a bug in Kevin's ear. I'm not sure they always have that list completely up to date, or maybe that sometimes the shipments can be adjusted from time to time. All I know is, my MV5-24 seemed to appear outa' nowhere... I just told Kevin a while prior what my prefs were and sooner than I expected, he emailed me about it.

I'm all kindsa' boring with my same old burst/tort look, but dang, I just can't get past it... this bass will be with me for a LONG time.

There is no such thing as a hum canceling single-coil. I think you're getting single-coil (non-hum-canceling) and split-coil (hum canceling) mixed up.
Regardless, the standard pickups on the Modern and the NYC 24-Fret 5 are dual coils.

Speaking of an MV5-24, I had looked that direction when scoping for an MV5 but I was concerned about the room between the board and the neck p/u - more so for slap. Do you find it roomy enough in there with the 24?
As for color, I've been really, really, really digging the cherryburst finish. I forget who's it is off the top of my head, but there's a gorgeous NYC with a quilted top in the classifieds right now that is tormenting me although it's just listed for trade at the moment. But I keep telling myself that my jazz needs are met with my MV5 - and truthfully they are. But, that sure would be nice. I could justify a PJ5 or Modern in a cherryburst flavor though. Mmmm, delicious.
Well, I'm probably not the best person to ask, since I suck at slap, so I don't do it much... just enough to get by when a song calls for it. But FWIW, for me, yeah, there's enough space. That may not be true for all though... it is pretty tight on the J 24's.

That said, my Geddy does me well enough for a pretty faithful 70's passive J thing, BUT, the vintage 60's J's are really haunting me these days... especially after hearing Paul Turner just lay waste with a massive groove on his... my gosh... and then Bobby Vega let me play his '66 at NAMM, which totally blew my mind, and that's even his "beater"!! Ouch.
Well, I'm probably not the best person to ask, since I suck at slap, so I don't do it much... just enough to get by when a song calls for it. But FWIW, for me, yeah, there's enough space. That may not be true for all though... it is pretty tight on the J 24's.

Actually I have been diggin' that '72 I just picked...can you tell?
But for most of my gigs it will still be one of my Sadowsky basses hitting the stage. They are more versatile for most of stuff I am doing at my gigs. Much broader pallet as it were....
But I think the '72 will be seeing most of my blues gigs!
BTW, I got to play Bobby Vega's '62 Jazz a number of years ago at School of Bass II in Arizona. Talk about a bass with mojo!

That is a pretty accurate color for a Metro with Vintage tint. I like it! And so will Fran.
My next Sadowsky won't be finished in vintage tint...99% positively sure about it. LOL
...but yeah, I like that one.
I called the shop and was CC in hand to buy that bass before I was able to convince myself that it would be almost certainly another vintage style bass that I wouldn't get along with.
The recently posted standard with soaps has sparked my interest though. Maybe I will run across a standard Metro one of these days that I can have re-fitted with Sadowsky soaps.

Charles: I have a bass just like that if you want to toy with it sometime.
A standard with soaps in the 60's JJ position is on my hit list, but, I believe that would have to be an NYC...I'll have to save for that for quite some time.
