Club Sadowsky!!!

Nope... with 4 Sadowsky basses, I'm not really looking at another purches... at least not yet... I have still been noodling hard over what I posted before tho... still thinking about selling 5249 and the 24 fret to purchase a new nyc mv5 24 fret.

So hard to part with two killer basses tho... even if it means another one that's a "combo" of them will replace them.

That said, right now, my old blonde bomber is just continuing to particularly blow my mind for such a basic config. Every time I hit that B string it sounds like it's about 60" long, and everything else about it just makes sound engineers throw up their hands and say "it needs nothing".

The Blonde Bomber just has something special about it. Sometimes I wish I would have had my 5693 made with a solid body but then I play my UV-70 for an hour or two and think thank god for chambered bodies. When we were @ the GTG in St. Louis I was struck by the beauty of 5249 but the Blonde Bomber is the bass I picked up that made me say. Im Calling Kevin Monday morning and placing my order. Its a Very special Bass.

Still continue to be confused by your description of your blonde bass as a 'basic configuration'. You seem to imply that a fancy top or extra frets or something will impact the sound of a bass. As I would think you would know, all the fancy stuff will have virtually no impact on the performance of the instrument.... for the most part, pure aesthetics.

Why would that 'blow your mind'? A fancy paint job or fancy top veneer or figured neck wood will have virtually no impact on anything except looks.

Just pointing that out so that potential Sadowsk purchasers won't think they have to purchase 'upcharge' stuff to get a full dose of Sadowsky tone! There is nothing 'special' or 'unusual' about a relatively stock Sadowsky (i.e., no aesthetic upgrades) sounding great.

Bah, get with it, man! Everyone knows that spalted maple imparts a warmer, earthier sound, while flamed maple makes the pups sound hotter. Sheesh...

Good thing I'm around here to set everyone straight...

Man, I can't catch a break on a Sadowsky...

The first guy I was going to buy one from had an ad on TB about a week ago. I was just about to paypal the payment, and then he decided not to sell, he just couldn't do it.

The second guy contacted me, then he simply couldn't sell his either, just too attached to it.

Third guy had everything I wanted, except it was a PJ rather than a J. Damn it.

Finally, one more guy contacted me, but he just backed out as well.

I'm cursed!

Please, someone sell me a Sadowsky UV70, RS4 or RV4!

Ok, regarding "for such a basic config", that's really mainly just about the newer chambered design. Roger did them mainly for weight, but reports that they did affect tone, which should come as no surprise, but that also the vast majority of the feedback was that the change was an improvement. The blonde bomber is "basic" by comparison... just a straight up solid body J. I don't mean to imply I expected it to perform poorly because of that. You just read too much into my post. No biggie. :)

On the chambers, I DO like their effects too... shades of cool... just different, and really, pretty subtle IME.

I hate to tell you this, blonde bomber is only about 8.5 pounds. It's perfectly easy on the shoulders. :)

Yeah, this is part of those tools I was referring to Jerry. The network must give him a "cost plus" budget to work with as part of his contract I'm guessing. (& Leno's new contract as well).

You can imagine the "processors" that are in the chain in that studio that we don't even see.
Speaking of tools - did you check out Dweezil's rig? His dad was a sound fanatic too. Frank always had the best concert sound I ever heard.
