+1 HC fan here too! However, there is a difference between 4 and 5 string versions IMHO.
I like HC in the 4 bangers and like SC in the 5ers.
A huge +1 on the Blue Label Stainless Steel Roundwounds too!

Question.

I'm thinking about changing out hardware on my MV5 to black. I'm not sure on the control plate - would you change to black or leave it chrome? It appears from looking through the Sadowsky site that anything that has a control plate has always received chrome hardware as I didn't see any black control plates or black hardware with chrome control plate.

Opinions?

I won't do black control plate.. It looks hideous imho but if its all black it might work for a stealthy look..

Yeah, it's a black bass currently wearing a black pearl p/g. I'm not too keen on the idea of a black control plate myself. But, I can't find any pics either way so I haven't seen what either would look like. I think black hardware on the Sadowsky basses looks great and can't say that I've seen a Metro that's been changed out. I know they're out there though.

this is a little swervy, but I think Nino Valenti has done a couple blacked out basses, you could hit him for pix.

I think I've seen at least one blacked Sadowsky, but I have no idea what/who/when or how to look it up in their archives. Maybe Roger or someone else would remember those.

Here is one of my VALENTI'S originally it had everything chrome and when i bought it from NINO at the GTG i asked him if he could change the hardware to black so he took it home and changed it out, i think if he would have left the control plate cover chrome it would look funny, anyhow if you are going black hardware i would say make it all black, in fact NINO just finished another bass for me and it too will have all black hardware (waiting on the pickups) should be ready next week mid week, i will post a pic of it over on the VALENTI Mega Thread, my other SADOWSKY being built will only have all chrome because i ordered a Vintage 5, if it were not for that it too would have all black hardware like my first SADOWSKY, any how here is a close up pic of the black control plate, there is no wrong or right way just preference.

Thank ya, sir! The more I look at these pics and then at my MV5, I think the control plate needs to be black. If not, I think it would look out of balance.

In short, no pickup configuration will please everyone. There's plenty of love for reverse P. Fans of that config say that the tone is more balanced across the strings: more growl on BEA, more depth to the D and G.

FWIW I think reverse P is okay, but much prefer the more traditional tone of the standard P. Has nothing to do with looks... to my ears there's a big difference in tone between them. Not as huge as moving from neck to bridge on a J of course, but big enough. :p And I have never thought of a standard P as "unbalanced" -- I think it's an advantage to have more depth to the lower strings, while the D and G "sing" more in comparison.
