It's worth thinking about definitely. I'm pretty sure I'd be fine, as I learned to slap on a Bongo. As long as the pickup isn't actually INSIDE the fretboard it couldn't be tighter than that

Btw, just wanted to mentioned that the Planet Waves Hydrate which Roger recommended is awesome. I spent over 5 hours yesterday cleaning over 10 years worth of grim off of my bass guitars. They look awesome and brand new.

It was the first time I took off all the strings and not just one at a time (very much due to the "one-string-at-a-time" myth imprinted when I started playing). Even though I used the same gauges, I had to adjust the relief on one of them and set the intonation a bit. However, the previous strings were totally dead. Relief is under 0.5 mm now (used to have 0.6-1.0 mm) and 2.5 mm string height on B/E (24th/21st fret) smoothly interpolated to 2.0 mm on the G string.

Does anybody know if Sadowsky would equip another colored hardware on a bass they have in stock (for the up-charge fee of course) if one were to purchase said bass?

I think you should do whatever you feel like. You can't go wrong with Wilkins, so if you have the money I can't see why not.
Personally if I had to go red I'd go fiesta red with a matching headstock, and keep the tort guard.

So an odd thought crossed my mind (when doesn't one). Since Sadowsky builds hollowbody guitars, anyone know if Roger has ever chimed in on a hollowbody bass? Obviously, it is a whole different animal but fun to think what it might be like!
I'm sure Pat would do his typical stellar job on it, and it's of course only your choice to make, but since you asked... I'd leave it as is for two reasons... 1.) I'm not really a fan of making irreversible changes/mods to high end instruments, and 2.) While CAR is a cool color, it'd be a shame to cover that grain up.
Very much and only IMHO of course.

When it is ready, sell this one or do the consignment option.
Sadowskys hold there value so it will work out for you!
We probably all agree that your new bass is pretty as is, but I also prefer CAR and would have the refin done.
I think I would put spend my money on some strings!!
Refinishing is a touch call. I have thought about it several times but never done it. It is pretty expensive for one thing. Whatever it costs should be considered money spent for your own entertainment/enjoyment. It won't help the bass's value.
In any case I probably wouldn't do it unless the instrument was pretty beat. This one looks just fine to me.
But, if you want a candy apple red Sadowsky. Well, then, that's what you want.

I think the new Sadowsky vintage 24fret 5 string is massively cool. Without a doubt, that will be the next Sadowsky I custom order !
Yeah, me and the double soapbar 24-fret didn't get along as well longer term (tho clearly it's pure magic for other folks) and for a "modern" Sadowsky, the vintage 24-fret is just EXACTLY what I've always wanted to fill that slot.

Personally, I really don't like sunburst basses
. (or plain grain ash in natural- even worse is alder IMO) Even though mine is currently sunburst. If I could maybe get mine in a trans red or that sweet trans blue, I think I would. But I'm too lazy and don't really have the extra $$ for a refin right now.
And I don't think I'll ever be able to afford a new one. Hell, with prices of used going up, this could very well be my last one if I ever have to get rid of it!
Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!.... Ok, that's it... I'm gonna' go to the seafood store, get the biggest cold wet dead fish I can find, and slap the crap out of you with it next time I see you... oooooohhhh you bad person you...Personally, I really don't like sunburst basses
That's what I would do, Toby. It's a gorgeous bass as-is IMO but I can see the desire for a CAR. Beautiful FB on that one!!!
