Club Sadowsky!!!

Somewhat off topic....do you like using the Zoom Q3HD? Wow, just got done reading that long post. Glad she's doing okay.

All my Youtube clips are recorded with a Q3. Fantastic unit. A+ on audio quality (even using the internal mics). B- on video quality, in that as long as you have decent light, it looks great. I believe the newer HD is a little more forgiving of lower light situations, but from the reviews, not much.

Amazing unit for the price, and absolutey scary good audio quality.

I've played Moderns and heard one up close and personal. Personally, I find the highs too brittle and snappy. Not nearly sweet enough for my taste. Sadowsky JJ or JJ 24's for me. End of story

+1 I had a Modern for a short while. Great basses, and with those huge humbucker soapbars placed very close to the bridge, it is a very different sounding beast. It is kind of in the Ken Smith and Cirrus tonal universe (those basses also have the soapbars unusually close to the bridge).... very bappy and tight and punchy. LOTS of space between the notes.

Interestingly, the Moderns can do a very good impersonation of any old school P tone when soloing the neck pickup IMO.

Great for what they are.... totally not my thing personally.

The Modern is kind of the tone I've been heading for lately. That real tight tone.
And yeah, it can do a "P" pretty damn good!

When I visited the shop last year to buy my Will Lee, I gave a Modern a quick spin. It really is a very different beast tonewise as described. If you have that traditional "Sadowsky tone" in mind, this is not the bass. It wasn't for me, but really does fill another tonal area I guess you could say. Very tight and focused for sure. I don't recall that I solo'd the neck pu to try the P tone. I was busy trying the WL's, but just wanted to plug one in for a quick sample.

Hey Mike!

Are you still gigging the Streamliner. I would think the big, smooth, wide, tone of that head would match up amazingly well with the upper bass grunt and aggressive top end of the Sadowsky Modern. I'd love to check that combo out sometime.

Oh yeah...and it's going strong.
Love that amp.

I've sold two through the shop. Worked out nicely.

Details of such transactions are found on the Sadowsky website. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Late to the party, but I sold a bass through the Sadowsky shop, and couldn't be happier. The funds went toward another Sadowsky so commission was 15%, but I think selling stuff myself is a hassle so even 20% would've been worth it.

Rather than take the risk of being branded an insufferable bore and repeat the long story I posted in another forum here, I'll just state that I played my WL this weekend at our big gig, and while things didn't quite go as planned, I thought my bass sounded great at the show.

I posted the long story here, but if you just scroll down to the end of the original post there's a link to some video of the show. I had brought a Zoom Q3HD along.

If you're curious, the WL had new DR hibeams, and I rolled off the VTC a little as a result, and also boosted the bass some. I ran it through a Mesa M9 into a Bergantino AE212, and the sound guys used the DI on the Mesa as well as micing the cab. I completely forgot about the midboost in all the confusion of the day and the gig and didn't even mess with knobs much.

Nice rendition of a great tune, and the bass sounds killer! Diggin' Mississippi Queen right now.

Yep.

After 15 ridiculous PMs on Talkbass (no I won't take $100 and hold it for 6 months or ship it you to try in person) I just shipped the basses to Sadowsky and viola`!

hey Bartman, I finally checked out the clips. *Totally* digging the tone and the playing is spot on. And that's without mid-boost??? Great presence in the mix.

:bassist:
Well, that's kinda' the Sadowsky "thing", so no big shock there. :)

Seriously, and no offense to the WL fans out there, but I tried a WL model and really felt like the mid control was just unnecessary. At least for my tastes, it was really over the top... at least on ash/maple, anyway. So I found it more useful as a way to create a scoop control by setting up the bass to be more even sounding with it on, so it'd sound scooped by comparison with it off. At the end of the day tho, I still found myself very rarely using it, so I ended up not pulling the trigger.

So just IMHO on that, but as cool of a circuit as it is, I just still feel like it'll be a minority of players that'll use it.

As to the other features, narrower nut, extra fret, yeah, I did dig that.

Yeah, I really have it dialed back on mine. Maybe 25% of where it was set when I got it, if that. Just as a slight effect, and with a tiny volume boost. You might say I treat it as my "overdrive" for a handful of songs. In that sense it's kind of cool but I don't always remember it because I'm not much of a knob-tweaker or effect guy in the first place.

But the main thing for me was the neck (which I got to try out side-by-side versus a regular MV in the shop), and the single coils, which were my preference anyway. The extra fret is of little use to me, though I do like the larger cutaway for some reason. I haven't used the D-tuner at all.

Disappointed at the moment. The stereo output jack on my Sadowsky needs to be replaced and GC and SamAsh don't have 'em. Anyone happen to be in SoCal and know how I can get ahold of a new one before Friday?

Ugh.
You're kidding, right? Surely there has to be a Radio Shack or Fry's somewhere around you, right? I've even often found any music store that carries instruments has like a little Hosa rack or something with this kinda' stuff on it. There's nothing special about the ones in the Sadowsky. Unless I'm forgetting something, it's just a plain 1/4" stereo jack, regardless of if it's on an Electrosocket (newer) or a football plate (older).
