Sorry if I'm a little slow on the uptake but could anyone comment on the tonal differences between the older Sadowsky M5-24s with the EMG40 size pickups and the new ones with the Bartolini P2 shaped pickups if any?
The front J (on the JJ) is closer to the neck than the P is on the PJ. So the guard on the PJ is cut different.
I believe the bridge pickup is in the usual location, but the pickguard has to be extended just slightly towards the bridge to accommodate the P pickup... in particular, the lower section that extends much further back.

I think you're right about that.
My PJ is actually convertible to JJ -- it has dual routs and I have a J pickup with a quick connect and two pickguards. That extra space is more obvious on the JJ guard because it had to have the same shape as the PJ guard. Looks different from a typical JJ pickguard.
Here's the only pic I have of it as a JJ. It's been living as a PJ for years. Some day I should swap it back I guess just for kicks.

Its been a month with my WL5 and its been amazing! Can't get enough of its goodness!
On the construction point of view its also amazing. It has joined an elite group of basses that has a neck that's super rock solid and does not move when being shipped from NY to CA to Malaysia!!!
So its a major plus for me and I can't be happier...oh yes did I mention its tone is to die for!!!!!

Had a good friend drop in today with his recently purchased "Will Lee" NYC 4 - WOW! what a stunning bass! took some pics with my two,
This was great for me as I got to see, hear, AND feel four things that from here in Australia I haven't been able to do so far,
1) Assess the WL-4 nut width = too tight for me.
2) Try a Sadowsky with Single Coils = GREAT! (still love the HC's in my two though and would not change them)
3) See a Dark Cherry Burst in the flesh = AMAZING!
4) Hear the mid circuit = great, but nothing that I feel is what "I" would need beyond favouring the bridge pick-up slightly on my Standards and using the VTC and bass and treble boost's to compensate.
Just thought I would share
