It's too heavy for a 4 hour standing gig. I have a bad shoulder/ upper back problem already that has plagued me for years.

I honestly think the styling is a little weird on the Fodera for my vintage country act- just doesn't look right! I also just joined an 80's dance cover band and again, the Fodera seems like it would be out of place.

I totally know where you're coming from, Robin. I used to think that way myself. Now, I don't care if my bass "looks the part" or not. If it sounds the part, that good enough for me. As for the weight, nothing you can do about that but get and 8.5lbs Sadowsky P/J;)

I have to look the part on some of these commercial acts.(I take a stool when looks don't matter, as well.):cool:

I can't complain, they're actually great commercial/job gigs to have, and often more fun than some creative situations I end up in- like a bad jazz gig.


Being that it's not high art or anything though, I'd rather not come home with a sore shoulder!

I agree with the PJ suggestions. I just love mine. But I'd also like to suggest a good ole ash/maple with JJ single-coils. Talk about a cutting bass. My ash/maple 4-banger does really well up against a pair of old Marshall Plexi half-stacks.

I love my PJ to death, but I'd never get one first. I'd always go ash/maple JJ single-coil first. FWIW/IMHO.

A little more relief on the bass side is good!! The bass strings have a larger vibrational arc than the treble strings.

I use either GeorgeL, Mogami, ProCo. All sound fabulous. Mogami is the fanciest of the bunch due to the gold plating... I doubt that makes an audible difference, though.

FWIW I use the skinny GeorgeL cables even for gigs. Despite how narrow they are I've never had an issue, even when stepped on by me or yanked by the lead singer's clumsy feet. They're light, easy to coil, and take less space when coiled than other cables. Just mentioning this because some musicians have raised an eyebrow when I've lent them a GeorgeL, but nope, despite the cheesy look they are high quality and surprisngly robust... just don't dunk the plug in liquid.

Thanks Ken. I've tried the George L SKINNIES, both qualities & was impressed (in the store) but I want more input before investing. The thing w/cables is that NORMALLY the LOWER the gauge number(thicker wire), the less high end transmission & these cables kind of impressed that aspect on me, being a higher gauge. NICE!
I have been using "Analysis Plus" Bass Oval for awhile & also for all interconnects. This is great stuff for live performance but for recording I've come to realize that the fullness in the bottom interferes w/ the high mid & overtone transmission. I need something unbalanced for the HI-Z input of my preamp, otherwise I could rig a bal. cable from the bass.
Has anyone tried "Reference Cable" ?

Blair, I have been using the Planet Waves pro cables and really like them. They are very transparent to my ears and are very quite.

I use to think Monster was great but, have had issues with them. I was told about the Planet Waves cables by my tech and he was impressed by them. I now use them for my bass, rack and microphones.

I am sure there are others but, thought I'd offer my input on what I'm using. Good luck in your search.

Thanks Joey. I have 2 Planet Wave cables & although they are VERY smooth & creamy for a P-Bass, I need more transparency in the upper registers. Flats are a tough animal to tame & to get the nuances from that great preamp I use, I have to take as much resistance as possible out of the mix. This is a similar challenge to matching strings to a particular instrument IMO. With the zing you have in your sound I'm sure that your cable is a good fit. Thanks again. I repeat - YOU got the best Sadowsky tone I ever heard bro!

Mogami sells their "Gold" cables in bulk, and you can get nice [metal] Neutrik connectors from ebay or amazon or something (likely you could get it from the same place you get the bulk Mogami Gold wire). MUCH cheaper than buying anything already made, and their Gold cables are the most non-bunk, straight up good quality cables out there. They don't sell their Platinum cable in bulk, as it is their flagship model of instrument cable. I use that one now and it is noticeably better than the Gold, but the Gold is still the shiz. Way better than Monster's offerings.
