Club Sadowsky!!!

@ ac3320
That seems to always be the way to do stuff. George L has a pedal board kit that includes bulk cable & non solder plugs that's a Whole bunch cheaper than buying made to measure. I would do it this way if I could get premium cable but I can't justify something I can't audition OR have highly recommended as you've done. Thanks again.

I use Analysis Plus Bass Oval or Evidence Lyric HG Cable.

If budget allowed, Evidence Lyric HG or Evidence Forte is the way to go for the more transparency in the upper registers tone that you've mentioned.
Thanks T. I'll look into the Evidence cables & see what I can read on it. As I mentioned, I'm not satisfied w/ my "bass oval" cable for recording. I can't audition their higher end stuff but I hear it's SO good.

Have had good results with the PJ-5 w/ flats and Zaolla cables.
This is a new one to me. Can you elaborate a bit on your experience w/these cables. Lots of price range here. Why do you recommend these (P.w/flats), over the George L cables you recommended previously?
As a side note for y'all, keep in mind that capacitance plays into transparency also. I suspect the higher cap. of the "bass oval" has a bearing on my issue w/it for recording, even though the sound is so PURE, it has a strong/ predominent bottom.

Have had good results w/ the George L's with the PJ-5 w/ flats as well. Im also a fan of the older Duncan passive pickups in the Sadowsky's. THOSE w/ flats, alder/rosewood combo really nails the p-bass flats thing. To my ear the George L and the Zaolla are similar both uncolored (unlike monster), unhyped and honest. Years ago really did a bunch of cord shoot outs. And for me these two pretty much work for me. Haven't really tried any of the newer cables the last few years. The larger George L's w/ the plastic covers over the 1/4" connectors are hard to beat IMHO!

Hey B, yes, I missed the Analysis Plus thing. For me, Bass oval is more a live cable while Evidence's is more a studio cable.

Analysis Plus Bass Oval - Well balance but more lo-mid emphasis
Evidence Lyric / Forte - Transparent with more upper mid present

One "problem" of Lyric is the cable a bit stiff itself so Tony @ Evidence release Forte Cable to fix that "problem" for some players.

Tonite I've been juggling this thread inquiry w/ the recording assessment of the "Analysis Plus" Bass Oval cable that I've always used & the great, short, custom made tuner cable that I have which I think is about the best sounding cable with regard to balance . It's gonna take one hell of a cable to replace the bass oval in my system. Although the cable is partial to the bottom, the highs are so sweet as well & the overall sound is so pure. I'm still gonna track down a more suitable cable but these guys REALLY nailed their technology. I wish I could justify the $320 purchase of their 10' Pro Oval Studio cable.(+ shipping & CDN taxes), BUT- as they say "no pain - no gain" ;)
Maybe the George L cable will get a try, but I doubt it will hold up to the purity of sound of the cable I use now.
Thanks a bunch folks for your advice & I hope to get this sorted out eventually.
Blair.
EDIT: I should also point out that all my assessment is done through Sennheiser HD600 HD PH & a Mac computer so the playback quality is really not in question. If the nuances were lacking, there'd be no issue here I guess. THIS is the price we pay for the brand of bass we play. :hyper:
Oh - like I'm complaining. :ninja:

Check my sig for a link to cable reviews that are not based on the hype and lies told by cable vendors. :)

Did Butch at Bayou complete the huge backlog of cables he owed people, or is he just saying he's back in business?

Thanks for the info. I read something in there about connecting low Z of an active bass (Sadowsky active on), to high Z input of a pedal & the effect on cable capacitance. Does this mean that even though my 'Bass Oval' cable has a relatively high cap. that the cap.( & OTHER cable properties, as you said) has NO effect at all on tone or transparency IF I plug into the Hi-Z input of my ME-1NV preamp? IF those cable properties are negated in that situation, what ARE the factors that affect tone/transparency? This is huge for me to understand if I'm investing in an upgrade for recording. Thanks again.

PS: Can't find the links for instrument cables. :hiding:

Yeah, the POWER cord issue is another piece of debate.
The other article has a section about the "Evidence Lyric HG" cable that Timothy mentioned.

EDIT: FOUND IT > http://www.ovnilab.com/articles/cablechoice.shtml
The "Zaolla Artist" & "Evidence Lyric HG" seem to be the most highly recommended if price is not an issue. These 2 cables have been mentioned here by others previously as being a top choice as well. (the Evidence is also available in a more flexible version as Timothy said.) My bass oval is right up there too but not given quite the same status as the 2 here.

Blair, I could make you a cable to your length requirements.
