Club Sadowsky!!!

That was way cool Blair! Looks like it was a great time!

On another note: I am bummed out that I cannot capitalize on a trip to NYC with my older Sis, brother-in-law and nephew! In April, they're going to Pace and NYU universities to see which one my nephew likes more.
Both of those universities are VERY close to the Sadowsky shop!! :(

Had the pleasure of seeing the Oz Noy Trio tonight @ The Rex here in T.O. My 1st time seeing Will Lee play live. (not to forget the other half of the groove - Anton Fig.)....Yikes!!!
Got some separate face time w/both of them, which was a real treat as well. The Rex is a nice intimate Jazz & Blues club where I've seen a lot of music over the years & where the acoustics is pretty accommodating.
Will played his alder/rosewood signature J4 Sad' through a Walter Woods head & a 4-10 Mark Bass cab. He told me he brought the head w/him & borrowed the cab. (got the impression he wasn't very excited about that part of the rig). He said he's in a "rosewood phase" at the moment, which is fine with me. :D
The mid boost seemed very effective at "punch" & sounded real tight. I personally like a bit more hi fi. For me, it's like a lot of 4-10 cabs - I find them a bit too "offensive" to be musical.(an 8-10 is another ball game). The same applies to mid boost IMO.
Even got to hear Will sing "8 Days A Week". Too cool! He told me the "Fab Faux" gigs almost every week. Check this out if you haven't already. The Fab Faux - Abbey Road Side 2 (mostly) on Vimeo

Ran into a number of bass players that came for the ride. Ya gotta love the bass player fraternity. Reminds me of the story Charlie Hayden tells of the opening night at a NY jazz club where he was playing w/Ornette Coleman at the onset of the free jazz movement. It apparently got around in the jazz community that something was happening that shouldn't be missed. Charlie said that he was uncovering his upright as they were setting up & looked up to see nothing but bass players from one end of the bar to the other. He said he freaked & just closed his eyes while playing the whole night. LOL.

Here's a couple of pics I took. I'm very disappointed that all the zoomed in shots came out w/blurred movement. I was too busy listening to pay mind to the camera. Oh well- next year.

That must have been fun , what a great band , cool night for you !

Nice!! Did you happen to shoot any videos ?
I had thought of it but there's a bunch of them on YouTube & I wanted to just get absorbed in the event.

Two great players side by side! Congrats Blair :bassist:
GET REAL! :D (Thought of you & how cool it would have been to share the experience Fran.)

Too cool, Blair! :bassist:

It was that & more Craig. One of the perks of living in the Big Smoke. :)
It's a real treat witnessing so much talent in one bassist. The guy is ALWAYS in the pocket. When you think of all the music he plays & has played in his lifetime, it's like a novelist creating a spontaneous chapter to an epic novel. His use of the musical language seems like an inherent function of his being. There's lots of 'em out there but I'm here t' tell ya, THIS one I won't forget anytime soon. AND he lets you know he loves playin' the bass.....a Sadowsky bass :D
I gotta mention Anton Fig here as well. Will mentioned the importance of a great drummer to creating a foundation. If there was ever an example of symbiosis in music, I heard it last night. I didn't get a whole lot of sleep after that event. Just couldn't snap out of it.

First bass with serial number past 6000 I've seen:

Blair, looks like it was a real intimate night with some real cats killin' it!
You must have had a nice Sadowsky conversation with Will too. Cool!

Damn you guys for making me so jealous! I've finally, after two years at working at McDonald's (still in highschool :/) saved up enough for a Sadowsky! I thought I should try and get one when I don't have to worry about paying my own bills and rent :ninja:
The hard part is that I'm actually in a time zone 16 hours ahead of New York, but I don't want to order online because I'd like to discuss the pros/cons of different woods with Roger (or whoever it is you order your basses from). Basically, I can only call from 2-11am and I was actually going to stay up until 2 today so I could order... but they aren't open on Saturday (it's Sunday here). Since I have school, work and compulsory sport early in the mornings... I have no idea when I'm going to call :rollno: shame on all of you for taunting me with your gorgeous basses when I'm so close!

Very, very good for you for saving for such a long time: way to go!

I'd bet if you send Roger an email, he could work a time to chat with you.
They're super, super nice guys.

Thanks a lot Chef, I'm pretty excited but I just REALLY want to order it. 8-10 months is a long wait :bawl:

I'm thinking of getting up an hour earlier than normal on Tuesday, about 6am or so... that way I can call them and have time to get ready for school. I know it's going to be worth the wait! :hyper:
