Club Sadowsky!!!

Somehow, I just can't see Vic with Glam-Rock hair.
Hah. You musta' missed my embarrassing pictures thread... even though it's sticky and into part-two now! :)

No guts no glory, right? Here you go... laugh away... technically too frizzy to be glam rock hair (even tho in this lo-rez scan it's hard to tell), but the best I could do with my rats nest...

I could sooooo easily put this up on the wall!!!! LOL!!!

But I won't.
Hey, it's public domain, I don't care. :) Only problem is, the resolution is REALLY small, so it'll look like crap, plus, I'm playing some other brand of bass... sheesh, how could I do such a thing??? ;) :D

Allright, I picked up my new bass at the shop taday and it turned out better than I thought !!! Everything was perfect.. The color is amazing and Roger put the parchment guard on for me which really sets the color off.. I'm having a mint guard made as well.. I also love the single coil pickups... Also the Sadowsky rig at the shop is killer.. Theres also a Vintage 4 in Burgundy Mist that I wish would have been a 5 string, really nice...

I wish I had a pic holding my buddy's '63 P-Bass at this point.
We used to trade off quite a bit at our gigs. I'll NEVER forget that puppy!!!
This is before I took up bass only. In high school we used to gig every weekend at high school & teen club dances playing early R&R (A lot of "The Ventures" instrumental stuff & the 1st Beatles songs etc). This is the '61 Les Paul SG I traded in on a '63 strat. The amp is a '63 Fender Tremolux (2x10"). My buddy had a '63 P & a '63 Fender Bassman of the same tolex color & grill cloth.
The pic was taken before packing it up on the way to the gig. I STILL have that gold tie I'm wearing. Quite a keepsake. It's the earliest photo I have of my music.
Showman heads were mentioned recently here. I saw The Ventures play an arena in 1962 using 2 twin 15" JBL showman amps & a Fender Bassman. Lots of bass players adapted that Showman head for bass around that time as well.

I don't have any band pictures so feel lucky that some of you have them regardless of what you looked like back then!

I don't even have 1 of me holding a guitar in my younger years (except a baby photo that I shared with Roger, Kevin, and Vic?). And I played guitar growing up, not bass.

I only started playing bass about 6 yrs ago!

oh fudge. I found 1 of me on open mic night stage....from December 2002. This was my first and last time on stage playing in front of a small audience in a local guitar shop. It was about 11pm or later and I was soooooo nervous that it took me all night to get up the courage to go on stage. There were about 50+ people in the "audience". Lol!

We're fingerpicking "Blackbird" by The Beatles.

Very nice! I'm not usually a fan of spalted tops, but that one looks really classy. I'll have to get my ass into the city one of these days and see it in action.

I find that stuff like spalt and burl tend to be love or hate things for a lot of players. This is my first spalty top, and it comes after wanting a spalted bass for a loooong time. Burl I rarely like, bug bass12 had a bustled top Sadowsky 5 that j loved. I also saw a pic of a Lakland 55-94 with a burled top at uh... Bass Club Chicago, I think. I wanted it. Badly.

I really wanted a quilted maple top for a while. When I finally got one, I was not as enamoured with it as I thought I would be. I don't have that bass anymore. I seem to be liking white these days.

My first fancy top was quilt. I'm not a huge fan either, though I've seen a few bloody dreamy quilted Sadowskys.

A lot of more affordable basses are being made with ultra-thin quilted or flamed veneers these days. I find that it's helped to uh... Reduce the attraction of some tops for me.

EDIT: For the record, I'm quite enamoured with the spalty top on my axe. ;)
