When I hear of someone beating cancer, I get an odd mix of elation for that person and sadness for the people who've lost the fight.

I think that your pretty pink bass is the least you deserve. The. Very. Least.

And I know that a bunch of ghosts around here would wholeheartedly agree.

As for the P bass sound discussion, I appreciate all the input. I was not on earlier to reply to any posts, but I think you guys answered all of my questions. I am not faithful to Fender at all, I only prefer that traditional P tone from time to time. I have not been able to, at this point, but will have to get my hands on a Sad P or PJ to tell for myself. My MV5 is all the Jazz bass that I need, but I will always have a spot for a good ole P.

After thinking about "P-tone" for a while today, and, coming back from rehearsal where I played both my MV5JJ, and, Fender 57 P RI;
I think ElMon hit one important point about Sadowsky vs Fender P:
thud, and note decay.

The Fender notes go dead much quicker, and are darker with more "thud."
The Sadowsky (I know it's a JJ, but, I had both RV5PJ, and MV5PJ) just rings and rings...and rings. Looong notes. More articulate.
Palm mute can change that, but, it's different than an F-P, in that regard.

^That's an interesting take on it Chef. I just need to get my hands on a Sad p or pj for a while. I love my MV5 and would like that same feel in both of my main basses, but am happy with my P for the most part. It would be nice to have two main players that basically feel/play the same, but grab two totally different tones. That Sadowsky low weight would be nice too, my P goes about 10lb.

A P pup is a P pup regardless of being in a PJ configuration or not. A Fender P-bass will sound like a P whether it's a Squire, MIM, or MIA. It's the qualities of the tone that are different. It's like the Alnico magnet P pups used on the pre-CBS basses having a particular quality different from a contemporary Fender pup but they both "do" P-bass. Then there's all the custom winds for tone mod on a P pup that many take advantage of.

The neck pocket on a Sadowsky bass, like every other part of it's build I'm sure, has an appreciable bearing on the sound of the P pup. One should be aware that on a Sadowsky PJ the P pup will lose some of it's SOLOED tonal characteristic when blended with the J pup but it still basically maintains the sound of a P-bass.(keep in mind that the bridge J soloed or blended will get you something you can't get w/a straight up P when you only have one bass on a gig). The P pup is very influential in a PJ setup. If it's in play, you'll hear P-bass. That being said, my Sadowsky P4 w/PJs & P neck "does" P better than my Fender P. :hmm:
It's soloed P pup sits with the kick really well. Here's another sample of that on an overdub.

Yeah, makes sense. That's sort of what I was getting at when I commented on an earlier sound clip of yours that it sounded like a P, only bigger.

So, I haven't been talking much about my new Standard because there's been a lull in the gigging schedule, and all I've heard it through is my headphones and bass12's sweet Ampeg/Bergantino setup at his place (where the results were awe-inspiring). I kind of feel like passing judgement on an axe before it has seen a stage is jumping the gun a little.

This weekend the bass gets its first real action: we're doing a house concert up in Laval tonight (my Ashdown 210 setup), then a wedding in Ottawa tomorrow (unknown PA). Our next pub gig is 8 and 9 June, at which point I'll have heard this axe through all our usual non-studio contexts. Monday I'm turning 40 *and* jamming with the boys. I'll let you guys know what I think once things calm down a little.

Unless I feel the need to gloat a lot earlier.

The white bass looks much creamier in the flesh than in the photos.
When I was thinking about my order it was going to be orange, then CAR then natural and finally white. I just knew I couldn't go for sunburst again after having a Squier J, an 'A' basses Darryl Jones, a Sadowsky Metro J, 2 Fender Ps and a Skjold Lions Pride that were all sunburst. Even the 'burst NYC Sadowsky in the photo is having a break in the case for a while as I got so bored of the 'burst look.:hmm:
