It's interesting you say that because we all thought the same thing. That EXTRA increment of perfection is probably appreciated more so by players. Sometimes the presence of inspiration does a real number on your own performance. (Mark is arguably considered THE best around these parts). Not that these guys are ever lacking. They do this gig because it's a treat for themselves & we all get to hear something special. (I've got 13 recorded songs from that night)

Tell me its not going to be a big enough difference from my MV4 that I don't need it, please!!!!

I found a smoking deal on an NYC 4 String Vintage J - Ash / Brazilian RW

- its brand new and would cost me $3970 (can't divulge more details than that but I can say its an older one before the price increases).

sheesh.... where are those threads stating Maple & Rosewood sound the same? I need to go read them again :)

I don't think maple and rw sound the same at all. In fact I find that fingerboard has more of an effect than body wood. Some guys dig maple and say they can dial a mellower tone in, with my hands I have a tough time getting maple to sound like rw (especially braz - depending on string type and wear). To me pau ferro sounds in between the two.

No, I know - I hear Maple / Morado / RW - all different too. Not only the sound, also the feel of the strings and how they respond to the different fretboards
(Maple - more pop and snap/bounce)
(RW - more round plush and "give" to the notes).

But man... I wan't expecting to stumble accross this deal....

jeeze this is a tough one.... I wan't really expecting to drop $4K today, lol - but this is sure making me want to! friggin GAS, and yes - I am a tone freek. :)

It'll be fine. Yes, the woods make a difference, but not enough for you to pass that deal up. Once you work in an amp, other instruments and a room's inherent sound, a lot of the differences get evened ou-- waitaminit, I think I've said this before.

But seriously, another thing I've noticed from playing bass12's two (now down to one) Sads, plus the bunch I played at the shop in NYC is that the Sadowsky pre as such a unique voice that it also irons out the woods' natural differences a bit. In contrast, I've messed around on bass12's MTDs and would be terrified to order one rather than play a bunch and choose one, because Mike's electronics are so transparent that the various woods he uses significantly change a given bass's tone. So if you were asking this about a great deal on an MTD, I'd say that you should hold off. The Sadowsky? You're going to love it. It'll be a little different than what you're looking for, but comparatively speaking, it won't be that different.

Stunning! Ash/ Mad.RW works well for me. If Braz rw is important for you to acquire at some point & if the weight is right - hard to pass on this I would think. If you think you'll roll it over - 'nother story. That's a knockout lookin' bass.
