Pickguard is fine if you wish... but the standard knob layout and Vintage knob layout is in different position...you won't get any retrofit control plate for that.
but.... don't do that......

I also vote NO! That top is gorgeous. Don't mess it up by putting a pickguard on there. I love the no-pickguard look.

No, They do exactly that on the fingerboards for cheaper double basses and the strings and fingers rub off the dye making it look...well....cheaper.
I'd rather have a fingerboard with brown/red streaks than a dyed one, in fact I don't dislike those streaks at all.
As Bob Taylor talked about in the video, I really hope players will start to see more of the beauty in multi coloured, or uneven random grain patterning in fretboard wood. Each piece has a personality of it's own.
One more time:
Once upon a time I had a Martin D35 with the most gorgeous ebony board!!! Ebony has a very "flat", non glossy appearance that can make the frets just sparkle. That flat top guitar also had SOLID Brazilian rosewood back & sides that had a kind of zebra stripe brown grain. It was the last Martin in the city with that wood.(1970). Everything that followed was laminate sides & back. Martin was even incorporating 3 pc back at that late date on the D35. I suspect it allowed use of smaller size of back sections.
I just saw a new Martin guitar recently with solid (I think) Madagascar rw back/sides. Looked very much like mahogany.
I saw a documentary on the making of ebony clarinets that was very interesting. That's where you can REALLY hear the tone of ebony.

Thank you Fran. Next time I take the strings off I'll get a good pic of the whole deal. The A string kinda covers the wave line a bit for the most part. There's something pretty happening in the grain near the low end too but more subtle. It's an outstanding plank!
