While the NYC basses are $, no doubt, the Metros aren't much more than any top shelf bass. Have you priced a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 lately? Not lots of diff there.

I save gig money, and then I buy stuff.
Gig money isn't my mortgage or groceries, which makes that easier.

Then again, there are folks who are perfectly happy with a something else; and if that's you, that's fine.
Different strokes and all.

Anything (or most things anyway...) is attainable if you save up...might just take some longer than others!

I have a friend who always takes out a bank loan when he buys basses...did it with his 2 Foderas and his Sadowsky...low interest rate and payment plan there for ya.

I agree with what others have said here as well. Yes, they're expensive, but so is any other premium tool in any trade. I can't say if Roger would be ok with some sort of layaway type thing or not, but you could always ask. Otherwise, just keep the money in your account until you have enough.

Also, keep in mind the eval/approval period. Even if you do all that saving and make the purchase, you're not locked into it. You can ultimately decide if it was "worth it" once you have it in your hands and gig it at least once (VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED before you make the decision, by the way).

There's really very little risk here... the cost of shipping... small price to pay for making sure this big decision is the right one or not, and really, there's no other sensible way to make that decision anyway.

Just trust that Roger's got it all figured out... from the instrument quality and performance, right down to the best customer experience you'll ever have... bar NONE. You're safe here.

Just keep in mind the approval is only applicable in this case if the "custom" element doesn't take it too far from a typical config.

Honestly, for someone just breaking into Sadowsky, Metros are a great way to get there. I figure custom builds are more for people who are already into them and are looking to go further (and spend even more).

Agree'd. Moz - I would look into Metro's.

No "payment plan" for em'... but less expensive.

That's what I did and it was totally worth it. I owned and sold 3 mid-level basses (between $600-800) and saved up the rest and it didn't take as long as I thought it would. I ordered a Metro PJ in LPB and it wasn't bad at all (the waiting was the worst, lol). Reasonably it's priced lower than an American Lakland, Tobias, and anything Fender Custom Shop... and around the same as Warwick, Spector, Modulus, and high end Ernie Ball and Yamaha basses... and I feel the Metro is a far better value for what you get. As far as "production versions" of a boutique bass their a great deal, far less expensive compared to other boutique bass prices (have you seen the sticker price on the new Fodera production bass?).
I've currently sold all of my cabs and extra amps and basses to save up for my next Metro (probably a UV70 4-string) and I'm 2/3rds of the way there... assuming the baby we're having tomorrow doesn't eat it...

I can understand that, I think about that sometimes too... but then think "What's wrong with you, dummy?!! This thing sounds awesome and you want to sell it? You musta bumped your head..." :D
But I still think about it to fund more Sadowsky basses none the less, lol.
Now that it's my only bass I can't do that so I guess I'll have to wait and buy another outright.

My hybrid was one of the first 4 strings the shop got. Under 9lbs, ash/maple, 3 tone burst. I think it does a great p tone. Especially like it with a pick when I use one(seldom). Looks very rock and roll

As far as selling to buy others, I'm very guilty. Roger always is doing something new and I like ordering one when he comes out w something. I presently have the hybrid and a great Will Lee. Would like a third. Prolly a uv metro 5 of modern

My PJ5 is also right at or actually I think under 9 pounds, and even has some light flaming in the neck. I think I got really lucky on it since it happened to also be the exact finish I was looking for, and I know this is pretty much just luck of the draw on that stuff. But yeah, the tone is ALL there.
