Yeah, I thought of that already too. I really like the tone in mine so I may stay with a quilt top and basically repeat my T red, but with a PJ and Natural finish or dk cherry burst? Dunno. Big decision!

I use Sadowsky steel strings exclusively. Never a dead string. However, had this issue with other brands. Some bad wire obviously. Send an email to Roger and let him know. He'll address the issue!

I photshop'd pearl blocks. But the BEM just speaks to me. Retro color & headstock? While it's cool and all, it's just not me. If I go solid, it would most likely be Pelham Blue, no, ice blue metallic, mint guard, and blocks, oh my! :)

So many choices!!! Thank you Roger, may I have another? Lol!

I had a couple of dead strings in a flatwound Sadowsky set. The metal had a different appearance on those two strings, and they had half the volume of the other strings. I emailed Sadowsky and a new set of strings were sent out right away.

I was going to wait to post comments, but here's my preliminary impressions. This is after about 2 & 1/2 hours playing, both solo and along to some familiar backing tracks.

I first spent about 1/2 an hour playing this acoustically (i.e. no amp). Great definition and the notes just seem to sing.

Next, I plugged into my practice rig, which is a Genz Benz ShuttleMax 12.0 into a Genz Benz Neox 112T. Setting all the controls to flat, I then played a bit in passive mode (i.e. VTC pulled up). The thing I noticed was the great degree of variability simply by panning between pickups. It's also got great touch transparency - meaning the timbre changes drastically based on where and how I pick.

In both passive and active mode, the neck pickup sounds very much (to my ears) like a very clear P pickup. Panning to roll in a bit of bridge pickup, we get into either a PJ feel or a J feel. The bridge pickup soloed seems very J like. (And please I know there are many single-coil J purists on this thread -- and I love that sound myself. I don't mean it equals an Ash/Maple/SC - but you can definitely tell they're related by blood, so to speak)

My objective behind this pickup and wood configuration was "defined fundamental". In chatting with Roger about the various possibilities (neck wood, pickup type and placement), I had asked him about a this particular configuration, and he said,
"It sounds like a J but bigger and fatter."

I'd say he got it right.

Note that this is just initial impressions, with my practice rig, and I didn't even spend too much time going into the various VTC Preamp combinations.

I cant wait to get this in my usual sonic environment with my full rig to really assess where it's at. Sunday night! :bassist:

That's one baad bass! Can you please clarify the pickup location - it kind of looks like 70's J-bass. And I'm totally geting what you describe as "defined fundamental."
