Ahhh, you don't know how much coffee I drink... I have several laying around from each monthly delivery of beans. There was one time one of the bags had a huge python in it that was all hyped up from having nothing else to eat for the long trip. Poor guy.
(man, it's getting deep here)

I was wondering if there was a possibility of transferring my descriptive post on "back of neck finish removal" to TB for future reference. Never know - might help someone down the line sometime. Why not just take the neck off the body instead of taping over the strings, wrapping up the body, etc?

You have an armadillo you keep in your pants that sets up your back line, and a gorilla bass tech? Does Mrs. Chef have to clean up after your "employees?"
Excellent question & one that had me in deep thought before I did it.
Rob is a master at fitting necks in the pocket & from what I've seen, you can turn Sad' basses upside down by the neck & the fit is so tight that it'll hold W/O screws. Not sure if I want to risk screwing THAT up. BUT I suspect that the crew do it a bunch so it's always an option.
The way I did the work provides an excellent balance for the extending neck side to side working position & free fall of dust in my situation. The application of protection was not a biggy & headstock wrap is still needed with neck removed unless you take off the tuners. BUT I would most definitely remove the strings if I did it for someone else.

I have always wondered if we wouldnt be better off to buy a full range active PA cab (and leave our amps @ home) that is comparable to most FOH cabs and set that to taste. That way you would have a better idea of what you sound like out front. If I use a wireless or let someone set in for a few songs I always notice that the Bass in the FOH sounds nothing like my Bass sounds on stage.

That is usually the case. But, I remember once this large theater we played the soundman was totally nailing my tone in FOH. I was wireless and could hear from the side of the stage. After the show he commented on how nice and easy it was to get a good tone from my setup. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that.....like, you know!

I agree and also get compliments on tone and you are exactly right. Some soundmen try to do too much or try to EQ all basses the same. Sometimes less is more when it comes to adjusting knobs.
