also it effects the resale value epecially if you don't have any documents
to prove that it was changed by Sadowsky. man, i would never buy a used Sadowsky bass that had been modded by anyone other than Sadowsky guitars LTD

LOL! I don't know you well enough to know how serious this is (or not), but really, a pickup swap is absolutely nothing, and he's also not having Sadowsky do it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have the pickups shipped to him as he did. He'd ship the bass off, since he'd have to anyway.

The good news about dealing with the same tech for over 25 years is that, if they charge me anything, it will be trivial The also make KILLER half guards for the Sadowsky Standard basses, if anyone is interested in that.

Actually it doesn't. I've seen countless Sads with VTC added, and not one has asked for more or less money because of who installed it. The installation diagram makes it a very simple job if you have any technical background and some soldering skills. I've installed two, and they look no different than one I compared from a factory installation.

My 1992 NYC (similar to yours) was $1800 late last year and I even bought it at a retail store that is a Sadowsky dealer!

I love my Sadowskys (hoping to do a trade for my 3rd Sadowsky today!) but if I had to buy a $5,000 bass it would be a "vintage" late '60's to early '70's Fender Jazz.

Well it's been way too long since someone posted to gush over their Sadowskys

My Modern 4 finally made it home today. I've been away from home a lot so this was the first chance I had to change out the strings and plug it in to some amps. And it finally got to meet it's big brother (sister? I'm not much for anthropomorphizing)...

These basses continue to impress the snot out of me. I love the 12" radius and the neck profiles. Very lightweight and resonant, and WAY more versatile than I ever expected. For the most part I like vintage basses and don't particularly dig the hi-fi thing. I can pull all kinds of tones out of these that I'm really loving. (plugging into old tube amps doesn't hurt here...)
LOVE the Big Singles.

I'm finally going to use them on a gig next week. My old Sunn 2000S is in for fresh tubes and there's a sparkling new NV 6x10 in the basement waiting to be christened. To say I'm looking forward to it would be a mild understatement...

Absolutely. The only diff between the maple board and the rosewood is just a small adjustment at the high end. The rosewood will be just slightly warmer and smoother and the maple will be just slightly brighter with a touch more snap... not like a huge night/day diff tho. They both have a nice high end.

It also depends on what you mean by "bite". I'm assuming you mean the high end. Otherwise, if you're talking about the Sadowsky mix cutting abilities, the bulk of that is really more through the mids, and they all have that.

NYC Basses are shipped with the Sadowsky Blue Label Stainless Steels.

Metro Basses are shipped with Sadowsky Black Label Stainless Steels.

+1 The biggest difference to me is in the upper mids. The upper treble sizzle is the same to my ear. However, the maple boards seem to have more of the upper mid grind to them, which I kind of like. However, as Vic says, it's not a huge deal.
