Wasn't your previous 5 a burl as well? I seem to remember it being buckeye. I also remember you telling me, but not if that's what you'd said.
Rockin' and reelin' for St-Pat this past weekend.
'Funny' story: I usually use the Fender for St-Pat's, because it's a total tank and most of our equipment damage over the past ten years has happened on St-Patrick's week, but I wrecked my shoulder recently, so the Sadowsky came out this time.
Sunday, a dude who was three sheets to the wind was slapping the PA speaker next to me 'in time' to our tunes, and he got a little too rambunctious. My bass was on its stand behind me, as I was playing my bodhràn at the time. I saw the speaker start to go and shoved it right back up while giving the guy my 'I'm going to effin' *cut* you' look. He backed off and the gig went off with few hitches the rest of the night. But since the bass was directly where the speaker would have fallen, I could just imagine the phone call I'd have had to make to Roger after that: 'Yo, Money! It's J-Dawg up in Montreal. Uuh... Just as a point of interest, you happen to have any necks hanging around?'

How many times did you play Black Velvet Band, Fairwell Nova Scotia, etc... I remember playing St. Pattys day gigs a few years back. 14:00 to 02:00 am.

WOW! that's beautiful!
The static cling vinyl is fine to keep on as long as you like. We have not noticed any negative effects to this. But it is only safe on polyester finishes. Do not remove it and apply to another instrument.

Yes, my previous 5 was maple burl, not buckeye. As for your St. Paddy's day gig - glad your bass escaped harm. That wouldn't be the first time a speaker has been knocked over at Hurley's (I witnessed Shane catching one during a show once).

You guys keep posting exotic tops and I'll end up jonesing for another Sadowsky that I can't afford.
This one is ultra sweet and it has the accent line that I find so classy that it should be mandatory.

We have the same problem, you and I.
And I also think that s fancy top ahold automatically come with an accent line. It just finishes the look.
Maybe you guys know what the cause of following problems can be:
My Vintage 5 has the following Problem. As soon as I plug it in it takes a bit of time before the normal volume is there. It looks
like something needs to be filled up before I get the normal volume. I have never had this before but recently I heard it. I went
to a local guitar tech and he didnt know what it is or can be. I hope this problem sounds familiar to you and you can tell me
what it is or where to look/check.
My Standard 5 has the following problem. When I play the bass you dont hear it very clear but as soon as I stop playing I hear
some dirt. It sounds like someone blowing in a microphone or dialing dirty pottys. The Guitar tech thought it might be a grounding
problem. But I have checked it at my last gig and it was still there. Also my last studio job it occurred but luckily I have 2 so that wasnt
really a problem.
Both basses have a new output and I use Elixir strings because of my sweaty hands
I play a Aguilar DB 751 with Bergantino NV 610 and I use Monster Cables.

Whatever you do, DON'T visit the Premium Tops page on the Sadowsky site.

I often use Elixir strings for the same reason. A caveat to coated strings: the coating can prevent proper grounding. (As you probably know there's a ground wire that runs from the control cavity to the bridge, and the bridge is then supposed to contact the strings.) A cure is to scrape the coating off where the string goes over the saddle.
I don't recall any trouble with Elixir nanowebs, possibly because the coating is so thin that the saddle wears through it quickly, but it's something to consider.
Hmm, I wonder if the same thing happens with nylon tapewounds (and if so, what's the cure)?
Arabesque - I would just call Sadowsky directly and see what they have to say on the subject.
Which battery did you use? I'm just asking, 'cause I had the same problem once (not with a Sadowsky bass, though). I found that it was the piezo-circuitry. It would only perform like it should when I used a top-of-the-line Duracell 9V battery.

Over the course of the whole weekend? So. Many. Times. Our version of Black Velvet Band has a soupçon of ska to it, which always surprises the kids who've never seen us before. There's linkage in my sig. Or I could Soundcloud it if you want to hear it.
And yeah, Sunday was our 14h00 to 02h00 gig. Made the previous day's 9-hour extravaganza seem almost short in comparison. I thank Roger's chambering for the fact that my back and shoulder aren't giving me trouble this week...
This really is a good bass.
I had this issue once. It was a bad battery box. Sadowsky used these for about a year circa 2000. Your bass have a separate battery box?
Which battery did you use? I'm just asking, 'cause I had the same problem once (not with a Sadowsky bass, though). I found that it was the piezo-circuitry. It would only perform like it should when I used a top-of-the-line Duracell 9V battery.

I'm using Duracell Procell or the normal Duracell batteries
I have sent a Mail to Kevin and Roger but no reply yet. I have a gig on sunday and it would be nice when the problem is solved by then.
The basses are both 2007 I think.
