I'm amazed at all the guitards and drummers here in Tampa/Clearwater who continually ask me "Who makes that?" when I bring out my Sadowskys. I bite my tongue and do NOT say "don't get out much, do ya?".

Most of the people who know what a Sadowsky is are probably here on Talkbass. So, in fact, the folks you're referring to are probably out more than you think. ;)

Agreed. Hardly anyone around here knows what a Sadowsky is. Truth be told, people tend to hear bass the same way regardless of what you are playing. However, the Sadowskys sit so fat in the mix that I find its extremely easy to lock with a drummer and if anything I get comments about how great the sound and how well I lock in. They really are terrific instruments. I've yet to hear anything even remotely close to "you need to get a Fender" when playing any Sad I've owned.

With the Vintage/Ultra Vintage Sadowskys, many other musicians (including some bassists) won't realize you're not playing a Fender. It's a selling point for me because I'm a blue collar bassist, and hesitate to gig with a blingy bass such as MTD or Fodera (I prefer Sadowsky for reasons besides appearance, of course).

That's why I call my UV Sadowskys my "stealth boutiques": very few know how much I paid for them. :ninja: But if the subject ever comes up, I'm always happy to explain why I think they're worth it!

When my guitarist got his new ES-335, he said something along the lines of: "No we're going to have to be careful when we go out on breaks and stuff to make sure everything is okay." Referring to the fact that he is gigging a $3000 guitar now.

Meanwhile, sitting on my side of the stage I've got 2 Sadowsky NYC's with my Mesa Prodigy, Berg CN212, and a pricey little pedal board ;)

Ii didn't say a word

On another note, on Friday night we played the grand opening of a new bar in town. A whole bunch of people showed up along with a few semi famous musicians that are in a very famous musicians touring band. We had the drummer and guitar player sit in on a couple of tunes towards the end of the night. Once we were finished all of them came over to me and made sure that I knew how great my bass sounded which was very flattering. All I could think in my head was: "I know" :). Anyways, I was playing this guy all night:
