I disagree... I've had trans black figured top basses before and it's all about doing it right, which Roger's crew will do... the top still pops nicely, but more elegently and subtle in modest situations, when you want it to be, but then really jumps out under show lights. It'll be great!

Haven't run into it, either--but I've learned, when restringing, to check that the ball end is still secure in the small opening as I bring the string up to pitch the last bit. A couple times I noticed the ball end had walked over to the edge of the big opening, and that tended to happen especially when I was getting a twist out of the string.

I had that problem when using TI Jazz flats on my 2010 NYC P5: the B string ball end would often come through.

At one point I thought I'd seated the string well enough to avoid the problem, but it failed at a gig (no big deal, I always bring backup). Between sets I fixed the problem by looping a paper clip through the ball end... I then wrapped the excess clip in electrician tape so it wouldn't scratch the body. That worked well enough... once the fix was settled in I didn't notice any problems.

TI Jazz flats are light gauge strings, and the ball end on the B is not much bigger than the B string itself. So, I don't think the problem is with the Sadowsky bridge.

This is somewhat off-topic - but does anyone have a sound clip of one of the NYC 5 strings with a soap bar and P pickup?

I purchased an in-stock Metro from the NYC shop and had them switch out the pickups to single coils, install a Hipshot and straplocks. Just stuff I would happily do myself anyway but easier to have them do it since it was coming straight from them, rather than another retailer. And I know they wouldn't mess it up... :D
