The depth of the neck pocket is not the issue.....it is the neck angle that affects how low you can take the action. If your bridge saddles are bottomed out or too high, you adjust that by adjusting the angle of the neck, not the depth of the neck pocket. What we accomplished by deepening the neck pocket on the standard style basses is to have the string to body distance be the same if the bass was make with a pickguard or without one.I'm wondering how the new design (deeper neck pockets) will affect how low the action can be set. I guess I'll find out soon.
