Club Sadowsky!!!

I recently got an Ampeg V-4B and I gotta tell you it is a perfect match for my Sadowsky Metro PJ... Anyone else is playing through this amp?

These are both hum canceling pickups which never gave me this problem until now (and I find it odd that both pickups started acting this way at the same time). I recently changed the output jack and it may have started after that, not entirely sure. Should I have used more layers of tape? I've tried taping each pair of poles separately on one pickup and all the poles together on the other pickup; no difference.

I could provide a wiring diagram if necessary to troubleshoot. Help?

It sounds like the shielding in the control cavity and pickup routs have lost some of their conductivity. I am guessing this is an older bass?? I would suggest having the pickup routs and control cavity reshielded.

Hey guys, I've decided to go ahead and pull the Sadowsky preamp out of my hybrid P and just run it passive. Although I've always loved the tone of the Sadowsky preamp in my previous jazz and PJ Sadowskys, I don't feel it works as well with a straight up P-bass for me. The cut in the low-mids takes out exactly what I love about P's and the boost in the upper mids gives me fret noise that I never get when it's passive. Also, I never felt the need to boost the lows or highs on a P-bass, so a preamp in general is just redundant for me.

The preamp in this bass is just a circuit board that's been stuck with double-stick foam tape. Is there any trick to removing it? I was planning on wiggling it back and forth slowly until the glue starts to give. I don't want to damage the preamp at all.

I used to run a V4-B back in the 70's & 80's. I blew it up so many times, and just had it rebuilt over & over! Great tone, especially on 11!

Yea Roger, I called the shop and spoke to you about it last week, its cool...not a big deal right now, wasn't an issue at the last gig. The bass is only 3 years old but I live in the tropics so umm...yea

Since the new TB policy of not creating new threads after 1000 I've missed seeing everyone's killer basses. So, just for the joy of it, lets post up our beloved Sadowsky's for all to see again! I'll start.....
