Yup, that's it Joeykun! It is an awesome bass, if it had been a 5'er it would have been with me at my audition tonight and not on the Sadowsky page.
It's the Metro UV60 Limited Edition. Both Bass San Diego and Bass Club Chicago have them listed with pics. They are sweet!
Phishaholik did you replace the pickup too? I am thinking about doing the same preamp swap out with my NYC Sadowsky UV P Bass. I already have replaced the stock pickup with an Aguilar AG 4P-60. Pretty happy with the current tone but am curious how the 250k vol and tone pot would differ from the currently installed 500k pots. I never use the bass or treble only the VTC.
I have both single and double Mooradian gig bags. They carry very nicely, and have nice large pockets, one by the body large enough for a small head, strings, cords or other gear. And one pretty large pocket at the headstock, which I use for a polishing cloth, clip on tuner, ear plugs, other little stuf. They both provide reasonable protection for self-carry type gigs, but I would never trust any similar gig bag to other people's handling or loading. Very comfortable backpack straps. The zippers appear to be very good construction, and nice placement.
I cant say I would buy one again, since I really like my ultralight, but for around-town gigs if I'm carrying my own gear and there is reasonable level of security from clumsy band members on stage, they are nice.
500k pots add extended (high) high end. I prefer 250, but the 500 is better with the nordstrand made singles which have lots of high mids. The 500k adds some more true top that they need. With Aguilar pickups Id go 250.
Thanks for they input. Have you ever owned a Mono or Protec to compare it to by any chance? I'm curious about how it would match up to other bags of that price range.
I have not tried the Mooradian, but FWIW I've owned a couple of Sadowsky PortaBags for four years, the Mono M80 and Protec Contego for months, and just a couple of weeks ago I got a GruvGear GigBlade because it seemed interesting. Of all of these, I like the PortaBag the best. The outer pockets hold a lot of stuff, and it definitely seems to be the sturdiest of the bunch -- it's also the thickest.
One small feature of the PortaBag has become incredibly useful to me: a handle on the front! Most cases have 'em on the side (the "luggage handle") and back, but not the front. At home I keep my basses in cases in a walk-in closet, standing on end. That front handle makes that kind of storage easy at the gig or at home. Again, it's a little thing, but I wish every case had it.
The best value is the Protec Contego, it's much less expensive than the others. It's also slimmer, so I have less confidence in its protection factor, however I always move my own basses in my own vehicle and never fly 'em. Inexpensive gig bags would probably be enough, but why not err on the side of caution?
Jury's still out on the GigBlade, but it's the slimmest of the bunch and has the least amount of pocket space: the really large pocket on the front stays flat; isn't gusseted to expand.
Agreed. I used a Portabag for years and really got used to having that front handle.
My only other "complaint" with the bag are that the back pack straps kinda suck and make the bag hang low enough to bash me in the back of the knees when walking. It's also heavy compared to Mono, but that's not really a big deal.
I've never used a Mooradian but I have four Portabags, a Mono M80 and a Contego. If I need to be walking a lot and know that my case won't be handled by others then the Mono is fine (it is lighter and easier to wear than the Portabag) but otherwise I use my Portabags for nearly everything (the Contego I find a bit flimsy - but that's in comparison to the Portabag). I've also flown several times with a Portabag (placed in the baggage hold) with no problems. With the exception of protection from piercings I trust the Portabags more than hardshells (who really wants their bass dropped in a rigid-interior hardshell?). Fantastic cases.
I have the stock pickup in there now. From what I've read and what they told me when I called the Sadowsky shop, it's a Lollar pickup labeled for Sadowsky. My preamp actually already had 250k pots in it, so my values stayed the same.
I will say that the low end is still nice and thick on the bass, but it now has more low-mids and less upper-mids than before. The upper mids sound more grindy than before; I found the upper mids to be clacky before I switched out the preamp. It's a great preamp with other Sadowskys I've owned and other basses I've run through my outboard, it just didn't fit with a P-bass for me. I like it nice and simple, so passive just works.
I LOVE this bass. It's built like a tank and balances perfectly sitting or standing. The neck has never moved even the slightest bit and I can get real low action with zero fret buzz.
I was asking about the Mooradian because there is one for sale local to me for a decent price. I own a Portabag, and love it. I was only considering the other because its close to me. I was just curious if it was worth going to take a look at.
Duh, I must have been sleeping when I answered. I actually had an ultralight, but gave it to a friend, along with a vintage bass as a gift. Both ended up stolen in SF last October, along with most of her band's gear from their van.
!!!!!!As of now I mostly use a Portabag. One thing that really bugged me about the Portabag was the zipper eventually separated from the bottom area of the case, which made it impossible to close. I took it to a professional upholsterer who did the best he could to repair it, but it is not perfect by any means. And the repair cost me $150! So, to me, the zipper quality is a design flaw. Other than that, the only thing that is a little bit bothersome echos what bassgod said...when carrying it with the backpack straps, it sometimes bangs me in the back of the legs. I can live with that tho. The front and back handles are very nice, and I use them
I have not tried the straps with the PortaBag. I get a little nervous backpacking other bags because the headstock is well overhead (so to speak) so it could get low-bridged (I'm 6'0", not that tall, but still). But yeah, I can see how wearing a case too low on the back would be a problem.

I tried both Mono dual an 80, I think. They were ok enough. Two basses in one bag is just too heavy, for me.
I like the ProTec Contego well enough, though where the upper strap is located means the bass projects over my head by a lot, which I don't care for.
The Portabag is the best, far and away, for me. Great protection, good storage, and two placements for the top of the strap means I get to choose how high it rides. And, the front and rear handles are nice.
