Hi Sadowsky club!

I joined this club several years ago with an Metro MV4, then I sold that for an MV5. After that I moved over to US Laklands for a while, which were beautiful instruments. Now, for a few reasons, I've sold my Laklands and am rocking a Standard P/J 4-String, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I couldn't be happier. This bass is just amazing. Here are a couple of photos I took last week.

I still remember the very nice grain on your vintage tint MV5. . The top on this PJ screams 'class'. Congrats.

you are #493. Welcome to the club.

What kind of problem are you having?
Thanks Fran! No problems with the bass since new in 07 but recently it seemed like the jack was shorting out sometimes and gradually getting worse. I brought it to a local shop for repair. The tech replaced the jack and two of the pots and everything was fine for a few months. Now The same problem is coming back again. I was thinking bringing it to sadowsky and let them take care of it and maybe upgrade whatever is needed.
Does this sound like a common problem. No problems ever before this.

Thanks Fran! Yes, I still use one of those photos I took of the MV5 as a desktop image - that was a great bass.

This PJ is really something. I was totally loving it acoustically (still do), and when I played with my classic rock cover band last week the live sound I had blew me away. I was direct through an A-Designs REDDI and hearing the monitors and mains. This particular venue is quite narrow, so I stand right next to the PA. All night I could hear myself perfectly well, but not because I was louder than anything else. It's voice just "sat in the mix." Big surprise I know! This bass has a very loud and clear voice with the P-pickup soloed. It's not dark at all but it is full and rich. I like the effect you get when you boost the bass and treble pre and then cut the VTC a bit. The PJ setup with the preamp really gives you a lot of options. D-tuner kicks too.

It sounds like dirt/corrosion on the input Jack. It has happened to me on every single bass I have owned, Sadowsky or not. Use a 600 grit sand paper and some contact cleaner to clean the input on your bass and you'll be fine for a couple of months. Repeat as necesary. You can find a video on YouTube that explains how to do it.

That's a beautiful bass!

The photos raised a question I have in general about darker fingerboards on Sadowsky basses. I noticed in the photos that the side dots (which are white) are located completely within the darker fingerboard (in this case a really nice shade of brown rosewood). My question... are all the side dots for darker fingerboards on Sadowsky basses like this?

The reason I ask is because when I'm singing on stage and playing a bassline that involves changing hand positions up and down the neck, I have to be able to look down, in low/no/flashing light stage conditions, and see the dots immediately, or I mess up my lines sometimes. For this reason, and because manufacturers like Fender tend to put their side dots half on the rosewood and half on the maple (losing half the visual contrast), I switched to maple fingerboards a while back and haven't changed. I actually like the look of maple better now, too, but just curious. It may sound like a trivial matter, but it can make a difference.

I placed an order for a new Sadowsky MetroLine MV4 about a month ago, which is in the queue for production right now... and I'm looking forward to posting pics, requesting a Club number, etc., once it's here! Very excited about that. I'm currently playing a MusicMan Sterling, which is a great bass, but I've always wanted a great Jazz bass.

I know what you mean. My PJ sounds great even connected to the cheap Chinese guitar amp I use to practice in front of my computer.

Here's my 2010 NYC P5 with Brazilian board (best pic I have of the side dots). My 2005 P5 with maple board has smaller side dots -- I am thrilled that Sadowsky increased their diameter at some point.

I often play in low light conditions so I feel your pain. I try not to look down when I play, but for large position shifts I have to glance down at the side dots. That's why I have FretFx LED strips on three of my basses. They're tricky to install, and not nearly as elegant as inlaid LEDs but of course they are a lot less expensive. I've been using my oldest strip for 3-4 years now and it's holding up pretty well.

Ken - what kind of flats do you have on there?

I took that picture the day I received my bass, and at my request it was strung with Sadowsky flats. I liked them, but since then I've been trying different brands of flats just because I've primarily been a roundwound guy over the past few decades and want to hear the differences for myself. Flats/tapes I've used have been Fender, D'Addario Chromes, LaBella Deep Talkin' Nylons, DR Legends, and currently TI Jazz flats which seem to be my favorites. That said, the tricky thing is that flats sometimes take awhile to settle in, and I'm not 100% certain I've given all of these string sets enough time. Oh well... I still have 'em, so I can retry 'em!
