I continue to source the darkest ebony I can, but pure black is basically history. Linseed oil is very good at darkening ebony with lighter streaks in it. Taylor, who co-owns the ebony mill in Cameroon with Madinter of Spain, takes the lowest grade ebony for their own production and uses linseed oil to darken it. It is also probably the next wood that will become restricted under CITES regulations. If you haven't watched this Bob Taylor interview, I encourage you to do so.

So I been playing it acoustically for almost 3 hours now. Babies are both sleeping so I can't plug in til tomorrow.
This being my first NYC I can really feel the chambering! May be in my head but it feels and sounds very resonant. I can feel the vibrations through the body more so than my current fenders.

Gotta admit the satin finish is cool and all but it's different. Feels like my old musicman sub series basses. Feel
Very rugged and made to be played and gigged hard!

I have a NYC WL in the final stages of its build. I'm afraid I'll play this bass more because it feels like it's meant to played. My WL is just a cure for my addiction.


Can't wait to plug this baby in tomorrow

Congrats on the Satin; but, say it ain't so on the NYC. Those basses are made to be played. Gig that bad boy when you get it.:thumbsup:

Here's the other side of my 2005 P5, which (as you can see) has been my #1 bass for rock. Note: after a few years the nitro finish was wearing off of the neck, mostly on the treble side, so I used 300 grit sandpaper to remove much of the rest. I LOVE the result: the neck developed a smooth vintage feel :bassist: and I happen to like the grungy vintage look as well. (Can't bring myself to do it to my other Sadowskys, not yet... they're still too pretty :D)

Just for reference, full frontal. Love the birdseye. One of these days I'll clean the "funk" off the fingerboard (isn't obvious in the photo).

I didn't use my Reiner amp with all tube front end because I was worried about wind pushing rain onto my rig, and I didn't bring my big ol' Berg NV610 because of a tricky load-in..... but my relatively new auxiliary/modular rig does in fact kick butt, and I think it looks sexy too. And definitely, the B7K gives me the perfect aggressive grind for rock, and I stack other pedals with it for heavier OD tones.

But it all starts with the bass: as I keep saying, "Blackie" is the P-bass I've been looking for all my life.

Let's keep the Sadowsky pr0n coming, everyone. :)
