Roger, do you know if he is gate checking or checking it with front desk baggage check? The cats I’ve seen doing this with the better “bags” are all doing gate check; so that the bass is first on - first off.

always a good thing (IMO).
order of preference:
1) get on first and put in overhead bin.
2) stow in closet (most new planes no longer have)
3) if bins full, gate check
4) rent/borrow locally
5) then, and only then, counter check

If you get the Portabag and don't like it (which I doubt) u can easily sell it here. I would most likely buy it.

I've always played jazz basses, but if I ever get a P bass I want it to look exactly like that.

It arrived today... I have about 3 hours on it so far and it is fantastic. Unbelievable fit and finish, great tone. Definitely the nicest bass I have now by a longshot. Not sure how much it weighs but it is light. Has to also be the lightest bass I own now too, even among the 4 strings.

I have a Mono M80. It's OK, but I like the Portabag way way WAY better. The Portabag is MUCH sturdier, and has better pocket space. Given that the two are the same price, the Portabag is easily the better value.
I'm not trying to talk you out of the hard case; I'd like to get one at some point. I'm mainly sayin' that I think it's unfair to call the Portabag a gig bag. Might not be as rigid as a hard case, but for local gigging I prefer the Portabag: less danger of denting a wallifwhen I'm careless
Really love the Porta bag lots of storage, but I've been using the Mono because I play a lot of outside gigs and it's waterproof. It's also lighter by around 2lbs. The Porta bag I would say is slightly sturdier and I usually take that one for air travel or long distance gigs.

I have both get the bag it's easier to get around with you can carry it on your back or place it in front of your passenger seat. If you ever need to gate check it you maybe able to put it in a SKB bass safe. So far I've been lucky and put in forward closet.
I’ve traveled many, many times between NYC and Tokyo with my bass in the Sadowsky Portabag. Always check it with the luggage. Never had an issue. I use trains and subways to travel with my bass to gigs and rehearsals so I use my Mono Vertigo for that since it’s lighter but the Portabag is tops with me.
That's a nice hard shell case. The Portabag is the case to have though. They are the most protective, full featured, classy-looking and functional cases I've seen/used. I have a Mooradian double bag too which is great. Its middle pocket is a handy spot for a strap. It's padding is soft and flexible, unlike the Portabag which is very dense, sturdy and compact. Here's a shot of my new one!
