I swung by the Sadowsky booth at NAMM on Sunday (don't asked how it took me that long to get to it), but I was super impressed with the MetroExpress. Met Peter, who could not have been nicer, and took the alder/morado for a spin. Great sound and the neck was super comfortable. I own a NYC custom build, and I can honestly say that it felt just as high end and comfortable. I don't own a jazz bass at the moment, so I'm suddenly quite tempted!

So I own a Sadowsky now, or at least I will soon. It was custom ordered last April from Corner Music in Nashville and JD just let me know it is ready to pick up. Great guy to work with that JD. In addition to the pics that Peter sent me during the build process the Corner Music guys were nice enough to post some online photos of it here:

Just to add to this mention of flatwounds... we were briefly out of flatwounds in our store, but Carmine just got a shipment in of our... wait for it... reengineered Flatwound Bass Strings. These build on the quality and tone of our previous version but have improved tone, feel, and consistency. Our beta testers unanimously praised them!
Wow dude! That's one of the nicest basses I've ever seen. And Corner's a great place to buy from. You'll have to give us an update when you have it!

Anyone who has the latest Sadowsky hard case (teardrop alligator covered)....how much stowage does it provide?
There is one big storage area in the center, covered with a lift-up cover. Here are a couple of photos inside mine. I originally had the semi-rigid case with my Metroline, but after a LOT of gigs, I was wearing it out, so I ordered a separate, new hardshell case. I love it. When I ordered my recent, second Sadowsky, I chose to upgrade directly to the hard case. It's a nice case. The alligator is cool, and the leather carrying handle is a nice touch.
I almost bought the Sadowsky hard case because it's a great design and looks so freakin' cool, but just bought another Portabag instead (I have 3 Sadowskys but only 2 Portabags). I've been using Portabags for close to a decade, and they're my favorites. They've gotten LOTS of gig use, and barely show it. So, I had to go with what I know (and love).
I also love the Portabags. I have 2 & also 1 Access 5 bag that looks exactly like the Portabag.
That case is cool though..
Yeah, lots of Portabag love from me, too! I'm really glad that I listened to the advice to get one instead of the hardcase.
The price seemed a bit steep compared to the hardcase but it is really good and definitely an upgrade to the Mono Vertigo I used before.

i have both the older and newer (access based) portabags, love them both. the new hard case is cool, but i still prefer the portabags over them.
I use hardshell cases for storage, and keep a Portabag for gigging. I was pleasantly surprised when I first got the Portabag...it checked all the boxes, for what I like in a gig bag.

Unfortunately, the double bass version would be too bulky and heavy. I still recommend the double bass bag from Mooradian Cover in MA.
I have a Mono M80. It's OK, but I like the Portabag way way WAY better. The Portabag is MUCH sturdier, and has better pocket space. Given that the two are the same price, the Portabag is easily the better value.
I'm not trying to talk you out of the hard case; I'd like to get one at some point. I'm mainly sayin' that I think it's unfair to call the Portabag a gig bag. Might not be as rigid as a hard case, but for local gigging I prefer the Portabag: less danger of denting a wall
yet for my purposes it provides the same level of protection.
FWIW, Will Lee checks his bass through luggage with the Portabag!
