Gorgeous bass! What do you have in the bridge P/U spot? Does Sadowsky offer a humbucker now?
That's the Sadowsky soapbar pickup at the bridge. I think it sounds the same as a humcancelling J pickup in that position but the character is a bit thicker.
Can you guys who have had both the Seymour Duncan's single coils and the new ones ,which are nordstrand i believe..can you describe the difference in sound. I see here that most preferred the Seymour s. Why ?
The SD’s produce more growl and are closer to what I associate with an early Fender Jazz single coil. But, I also used SD SJB2’s for years in my Fenders; so, my memory could be slanted. The Nordstrands are much more beautifully made and sound much more neutral and transparent. They might be a preferred sound if you are doing a lot of pedals and that kind of thing. My $0.019.
i have the nordstrand on one of my sadowsky ,, love the tone alone but when i play with the band they sound a little distorted to my ears thays why i was thinking if switching them to the duncans
IMO, nothing beats the SD Antiquity II’s which were, at some point I believe, the same as Sadowsky SCs. Great middy fundamental.
About 2 weeks ago I added a set of the SC's to my current Satin order and was told by Peter that they have switched to the Duncan's for the SC's. He said they did it about 18 months ago.
I'm really excited to try the Duncan's. I have the Nordy SC's in one of my Metros and even though they cut through great in a live mix I find them slightly brittle on the high end. I tend to roll off the VTC quite a bit on that bass.
i thought the sad singles were the norstrand ? no?.. i had them installed at the shop , are the antiquitys the duncans the shop uses?
Is there a way to tell visually whether they're Seymour Duncans or Nordstrands?
Mine is an RV 524 Metroline that was built in 2016 I believe.
Regardless of what they are I love the tone, but it would be nice to know.

Round edges on the cases are Nordstrands. I strongly prefer the duncans. Loved the Nordstrand PJ5 set though.
No they are the single coils the sadowsky shop installed. Not sure if they are nordstrand or Duncan's
It would be easier to tell if you remove the pickup cover.
Norstrand is almost covered enterily in copper, they are the quietest single coils I've ever heard, but IMHO they do not sound like an original Fender SC. I have one Sadowsky in HB and one with SC.
I have not heard the Sadowsky 5 string Duncans, so I can not comment on them.
I have a 4 strg Jazz with 62 reissue singles, amazing.
Maybe the 5 string version is harder to replicate?

Has anyone else had to replace the input jack on their Sadowsky? Are the jacks in Sadowsky's less compatible with some cables as opposed to others? For the last few years I've been using the higher end monster cable.
When I was still living in NY, Roger replaced the jack on my first NYC bass after about 2 years of use. That jack has held up.
Unfortunately the jack in my modern 5 is shot. I tried going into the control cavity to bend the upper edges of the jack to enable a tighter fit and that hasn't worked worked.

I think I remember seeing a thread where some said Monster, at times made their plugs oversized so they held tighter. They claimed it ruined the jacks on their instruments.
I never use them myself.
I recently read in some other threads monster cables are (or at least used to be) ever so slightly larger than normal cables. The inference was this was done so the monster cables felt more snug, but over time they wear the jacks out. I have no personal experience with this (never used monster cables) so maybe someone more knowledable can chime in.
