I've been saying for years that the NYC necks and the Metro necks were different but nobody agreed, saying they were exactly the same. I'm glad Roder confirmed this. The necks on the Metro is one of the reason's I don't like those basses and greatly prefer the NYC's. I have found, and this is only my experience with 5 string Metro's as I've never played a 4, is that the Metro necks are a little bit thicker with more of a shoulder.

Hi Roger,

What would you say is the main difference between NYC and Metro necks, other than the country they are cut in?

Thanks!

Can you specify a target weight if you order a custom satin NYC? IE: Under 8lbs

I presume you only get your pick of alder/morado or ash/maple; and color choice.

Yeah. To be honest, specifying a weight didn't even occur to me when I placed my order - just fretboard (which dictates body wood) and color. I'm just hoping, since most NYC 4-strings seem to fall between 7 and 8 lbs, that mine will as well.

I ordered olympic white with maple fretboard (and white pickguard). Sadly, I only ordered it last month, so I'm having to wait until... September?

Sometimes my wife thinks she's funny and says "Oh! Sadowsky called and your bass will be done early!" Har har har.

...but I can't blame her. She's probably tired of me wondering if it's September yet.

I just bought a Sadowsky from Ikebe Music, they have some really cool basses.

I've been checking out the TYO line, some really awesome options, those basses look great.

They've always been cool when I drop by while on tour or holidaying in Tokyo. Plus, they have an SA200 handy if choose to demo a bass or two :bassist: Looking forward to hearing about your new bass!

Lol your wife is hilarious

I feel you Dave, I put in a deposit for a MetroExpress and I feel the same way.

Yeah. As uncool as it is to say it, she’s pretty awesome. Not just because she tolerates me buying stuff like expensive basses. (Plus, she really is hilarious. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met. Even when I end up being the target.)

Are you going to be getting your MetroExpress in June? I looked /really/ hard at those and went back and forth. It was actually my wife who convinced me to just pay the extra and get the Satin series (“you know it’s the one you really want.”).

It is very cool (not uncool) to say this! My wife is the same wonderful supporter as I plan for a Satin purchase, as well. My problem is I just stumbled into the world of the Modern Sadowsky's......

I bought this beauty from Ikebe a few weeks ago. Sounds amazing, great tight bottom end and cutting highs! It's part of a limited run of non standard burst finishes that Sadowsky Japan made for Ikebe.

Dang you have such an amazing wife! I hope to meet someone like her one day.

Yes my deposit is for the first shipment coming in June. I went with the Metro Express for a variety reasons: 1) cost 2) timing 3) metallic finishes.

I want to add a P-Bass and that extra $1000 or so (between the MetroExpress and Satin NYC) will be used towards that. Also a huge fan of metallic finish, just love how a bass looks with it. If the NYC satins ever comes in Metallic finishes I'd be in trouble

Hi everyone.
What is the difference between the Metroline bass and Sadowsky TYO?
Thanks

From what I what I can gather, the TYO (Tokyo) line is the custom line from Sadowsky Japan. The Metro line is a set number of models and finishes based on the Sadowsky NYC line minus the chambered bodies, black hardware, and figured tops. I would be interested to find out if the TYO line has chambered bodies.
