Right! That was one of the main reasons I went for the Satin over a Metro. Someone was asking if one could pick a specific weight for the Satins. I was saying that I think they would need to move up from the Satin series for that. Since most of the Satins seem to be in the sub-8lb range, I'm totally good with that. I'm glad to hear yours is too!

... how can both Madrid and Toledo be featured in the same tour guide? Antonio's Tacos is not quite the same as Tony Pacos...

Not to be pedantic, but it's "Tony Packo's". You'd be strung up if you ever made that mistake in Toledo (Ohio).

I'm going to assume that the Ash/Maple Satins are generally lighter than the Alder/Morado? Thoughts? Roger, True?
Wanted to mention something about the Portabag. Really like the two changes Roger made on the newer bag. The shoulder strap padding is now in a fixed position. On the older ones they used to slide down. Also for added protection there is now a Velcro flap on the bottom of the bag that goes over the zipper which would prevent the bass from sliding out in the event of zipper failure. It's amazing how two small changes can make a difference! The only thing I'd like to see is if this bag were water resistant (I've been caught in the rain on a few occasions) also for light snow etc. With that being said I love the bag! BTW it received good reviews recently in Bass Player magazine. Thank you Roger for your continuing improvements for real world applications!
As far as I know you can't pick a specific weight even in the NYC basses. There's a variance of a few ounces for projected weight range. However with the NYC basses you can order specific woods that may make a difference by a few ounces.

Said it before, but the Portabag is my favorite, even over a hard case. (I do not fly with my bass, but some have said they fly with the Portabag). Recently got a newer one with bottom flap, but I also have the previous version. I doubt it's waterproof, but it certainly seems water resistant: I don't worry a bit in light rain or snow. I wouldn't want to be in heavier rain with the Portabag... but then I wouldn't want to be in heavier rain with any case. I know what you're saying: "what if?" If I wanted to be that prepared I'd use something like a high-dollar ATA, but even though I gig every weekend it would still be overkill for my usage.
On an unrelated note: love the Sadowsky newsletter sales. I bought a discounted 3" cotton strap back in February, and a discounted black leather strap just recently. Good stuff!

According to Roger's post from a few days ago, it sounds like you can specify a weight (on the regular NYC, not Satin series).
I've been spending a lot of time recently combining treble boost with the VTC roll off on my new Sadowsky. Man, does this open a whole new world of tonal possibilities! There's a load of different tonal responses as you adjust the treble boost and VTC in opposition to each other.
