Club Sadowsky!!!

My NYC is my back up, to a bass a local luthier built me that also has a sadowsky preamp.

I may experiment with pickups, but I'm now on my 3rd bass with the Sadowsky preamp and I can't see myself ever using another preamp. The sadowsky pre with VTC is the most usable and flattering active electronics I've ever owned. They make everything sound great with just minor tweaks.

The ones that are housed in the 40DC shape are wider and have a larger notch cut out where the screws go in. And the screw is pretty deep down. Like this:

Mine are the 40 DC. That notch is a comfy place to anchor my thumb.

Yeah, those sound exactly like the ones I have on my other bass. The newer ones are a little more compressed, I've heard people say they are kinda like Barts in that respect, but with a slightly different frequency range. And that sounds about right to me.

I unfortunately have very limited experienced with NYC or Metroline Sadowskys, only having played a few notes on friends' basses and usually unplugged. Thus I cannot compare this versus them.

Some "headlines" for now: If I were a dog, my tail would be wagging! Immediately upon plugging it in and turning it up it was "wow". I was unsure how I'd feel about the preamp, and bass and treble boost scooping, but I'm happy I can find lots of useful tones there. Sounded good passive, sounded better active, and great options. Seemed like nothing was "nah", and never had to fight off bad tone, just options to find alternative good ones. I assume this is pretty much like all experiences with the Sadowsky preamp. Felt light, balanced, and comfy. A few things that are just different and I just have to get used to (e.g. width at nut, staggered height pole pieces). Fit and finish are just awesome, frets feel good, the back of the neck is so nice. I need to go back and read what the radius is, but it's comfy.

Easily one of my favorite basses, and it's got me even more stoked that I have ordered a NYC. I did the right thing getting both!

I'll seek to post a review later (after at least rehearsal; unfortunately our gig last night was cancelled, and now in hindsight I would have felt comfortable playing this bass the first night I had it).

I have NYC and Metro models & I would use some of your descriptions for those as well. Sadowskys' really shine in a live band setting so you have that to look forward to, still.
I'm not surprised that you like it. I don't think Roger would put his name on anything that is not top notch.

Curious about your NYC order and apologize if you already mentioned it: did you order another jazz nyc?

I’m starting to think a jazz and modern might be a great way to cover various bases (no pun). Can’t believe I’m saying after being a PJ guy for so long.

I will be ordering my Will Lee NYC 5 very soon. I have already been given a quote and then noticed on the build options you can get oil finish on back of neck for $200.00. I didn’t get that option so what is a standard neck finish?

In my case my NYC order is another jazz. I'll get some non-jazz bass again here sometime, but kind of like going to a restaurant and deciding to pick from my old standby versus some new-to-me dish, I'm going for what I know I like. Love p-basses but have struggled with 'em tonally, and non-Fender style guitars I've struggled with even more.

I’ve had Lisa sand 2 necks for me and add oil/wax. Awesome just like my Laklands. It’s personal preference, and they will do that for you.

They come standard with Dunlop straplocks...new Dunlop strap push buttons are always included in the care/maintenance package, in the storage compartment (inside the gigbag/case)...

Not sure (never needed it)...I know there’s a 7-day return policy, but I’d recommend contacting Peter at the shop, for complete warranty details.
