Club Sadowsky!!!

While we're talking about the Modern, I've seen some folks on here post pics of the Modern with Nordstrand Big Singles (apparently they are offered as options in the custom shop from what I hear).

Does anyone here have that configuration or soundclips available? I'm curious to hear what one would sound like with those pickups.

Can't seem to find any youtube clips either.

I'm thinking receiving a Sadowsky for a graduation gift would have been more climactic, than receiving the degree... it would have been for me, anyways. I do have to admit... one will carry you through life, and the other allows you to arrive in style...

... feel free to switch these around, any way you want.
Depending on the degree, it would probably be cheaper and more useful too ;)

So another Sadowsky question. On the NYC basses you have a vintage option as a $150.00 upcharge. What is the difference between a vintage and non vintage NYC? I think I have everything narrowed down to a Will Lee NYC 5 but was wondering if I had the vintage option ordered, how it would differ.

Also, there is a 5 string, hum cancelling option for a $100.00 upcharge but looking at the Will Lee NYC specs, it appears that is a standard option. Am I reading that correctly?

Thanks all for your help. I am beyond excited to get this bass ordered.

I recall some metal guy playing Sadowskys... Jason something... was in one of the bigger bands... don’t think he played moderns though :D

We built several Moderns for Jason. Only change is he had us move the neck pickup 1" closer to the neck as he wanted more space between the two for picking. The photo of the black "Newsted" bass previously posted has the soaps in normal J locations.

Logically... something like this...

Ha! That's one of the pics I used to make my high-quality, professionally designed mockup. Too bad I've got a day job, I could hammer out more of those for you guys all day long...

Hey Club Sadowsky, I have a quick question for you... Note: I checked in with admin @smperry to make sure that this was cool to post and he gave me the okay.

If you use a Sadowsky preamp pedal, how exactly do you use it and how do you approach your settings? We'd like to provide better advice on settings, but wanted to get a better sense of how people are actually using the pedal to see what makes the most sense.

When you are using your pedal, do you think in terms of setting it up for a type of music like rock or funk or jazz? Or do you just think of it in terms of a type of playing like slap? Or do you have a totally different plan of attack?

Whatever you do, we'd love to hear how you approach the settings on our pedal preamps.

I always set mine the same as how I use the Sadowsky onboard preamps. I only use the pedal with my passive P-Basses...volume on full, treble on minimum and bass boosted to about 9 o’clock. Tone control on the P functions as my “VTC”. It’s my “always on” pedal...at least with passive basses.

@deepestend: somewhere, back in all the pages @Chef recently referenced, Roger had some very insightful comments about using the Outboard. Maybe, 18 - 36 months ago; but, could be difficult to locate with Search.

Based on those comments, I’ve used my Outboard with passive Fenders (which are now down to just my 62, since I now have your onboard in my other Fenders) by setting the Volume all the way up (since it is a passive cut), and setting both bass and treble gain around 12:30; which seems to me to correct the lower mid hole in the Fender Jazz Bass Tone and provide a little more bite. I don’t change those settings, while going from Motown thud to Aerosmith plectrum to slap; preferring to shape tone with pickup balance and the Fender tone knob.

But, that’s me.

This. Passive Lakland P, set the SBP2 with a bit of tone and bass boost, then level output per video (which was a great help). Almost like having a compressor on it; makes the note articulation a bit nicer and with some more pop. If I was doing Motown, I'd probably switch to full passive (i.e., switch the pedal off).

If you have an Alder/RW NYC P5 or PJ5 and looking for an awesome NYC JJ5 look in the classifieds. A project I am working with does several Motown songs and I need something to slap some flats on and get some funky thump. I am trading this.
