Club Sadowsky!!!

I am very, very excited to be getting my first Sadowsky Bass hopefully late next month. I have a MetroExpress Sage Green 5 string coming my way, cannot wait. I've wanted a Sadowsky since I grew up watching Jason Newsted play, Ive been lucky enough to play a few NYC's but the budget just couldnt stretch this time. One day maybe, either way I'll still own a Sadowsky real soon.

Jason Newsted is one of my idols going back to Flotsam & Jetsam. But Congrats!!! On the Sadowsky, I just got my first one and haven’t stopped playing it. I’ve become obsessed with it lol. But I hope you get your basses soon!! The Sadowsky group here on TB is a GREAT group of guys. So much great advice and tips. Plus the man himself Roger Sadowsky visits the forum quite a bit. He answers questions and gives tips.

I know this has been posted before but I gotta ask... When you guys fly with your Sadowsky's what do you use? Hard case or Portabag? Just got a call yesterday for a two week tour in September and I'm going to be flying to SF to start the tour. I have a regular hardcase, the hard/soft Sadowsky case and the Portabag. It's only going to be a short flight so I was thinking it will likely be a gate check. Will the Portabag suffice or should I go hardcase?

Congrats, @gustobassman! Can't say I'll ever be in this position, but I would ask how much the airline is responsible for, when damages occur from check-in to arrival...

... what's your transportation situation, during the time you're touring. I'm sure you have your equipment insured, as well, so I would think there's a lot more going into this decision other than the concern with how the airline handles your luggage.

If it was me, and it was stowed... hard case. If you can check it...

When ever I deploy I have the Wife ship one of my basses and I bought one of these. It’s been around the world a few times and my bass has always arrived without a scratch and very well protected.

I was thinking about shipping it to SF too. That may be the easiest thing to do.

Thanks Spidey! I'm pretty sure it's a van for the tour, space shouldn't be an issue but I do need to check on what the airline will cover when i book my flight.

Thanks for bringing up insurance - I have to update a few things!

Shipping is starting to sound better and better - San Diego to SF is only a couple days.

I second this recommendation! I have crisscrossed the USA several times and been to Mexico/UK/Ireland and not one scratch on my bass. I do have a good collection of TSA notices though, great for starting my weber grill!

I used to try to get it onboard, but it is just to risky as some planes it will fit (with a gig bag) in overhead, and that's if you can find an empty overhead bin! Some planes the overhead is simply not big enough. So I just check it in the SKB, no worries.
