I just can't remember if there was a charge for swapping SC for HC when I ordered my Metro.
I do know I almost bailed on the whole Sadowsky thing when I bought a used RV5 with HC: too scooped for me. Deal breaker.
However, Vic talked me into the SC swap on that, and I kept it a good while til I bought the MV5.
The MV5 with SC works out very well for me.
And, ash/maple just works better for me in most all cases.

WL Specs

• Nut: 1.75" on 5-string
• 22 nickel/silver frets .090" wide x .048" high

Metro Specs

• Nut: 1 7/8” on 5-string
• 21 18% nickel/silver frets .094″ wide x .051″ high, maximum hardness

The WL is the only Sadowsky model (NYC or Metro) that has 22 frets. Otherwise, the choices are 21 or 24.

The WL 5 spoiled me for all 5’ers. Perfect combination of nut width and string spacing that I now need in a 5 string bass

-Is the neck different than a regular MV5 neck, and if so, how?

-To those who have owned both an ash/maple WL5 and an ash/maple MV5 with single coils, did the Will Lee preamp add a level of functionality you enjoyed and used, or, not? And if yes, then can you quantify that?

FWIW, @Ewo and @Vic already gave pretty accurate responses; but, here’s my additional $0.019:

The 1 3/4” nut width is nice, but not a deal breaker for me. I prefer it; but, the extra 1/8” in standard width wouldn’t stop me from gigging an otherwise great bass. If I’m spec’ing a bass, I would get it.

That mid boost switch was requested by Will as a method to cope with guitar heavy mixes. I suppose it may work for that. But, I didn’t care for the change in sound, as it makes the bass sound more congested. So, I never used it.

I swapped out the HC for SC on My MV5-24 years ago for the same reason. It was missing some of the midrange and was way to clean for me.

Yup, all Single Cut basses include the Mid Boost Pre-Amp with switchable midboost and trim pot.

Played a few of these in the showroom over the summer...killer!

Interesting to see Roger working with the fir softwood chambered core capped by hardwood plates. Kind of remiscent of the Parker Fly Bass construction.

Here's a happy pic of Lisa, Roger, and Carl. I had fun and informative conversations with Roger and Lisa today. They were so nice! It's obvious that they love what they do, and they do it well. Every bass and guitar on display is absolutely fantastic. The booth is always busy, and there’s always cool things happening at the Sadowsky booth!

Andy Irvine dropped by and we chatted for awhile. What a nice guy! Fun!

Chef, I find either the HC or SC works for me, but I've always preferred mid-punchy amp speaker combinations like the Thunderfunk, or my current Subway so they scooped thing never showed up for me. I do think the Sadowsky sweet spot is the MV5 with SC's though no doubt.

Had one of those experiences many of us Sadowsky players have had this weekend. Played with some new guys and a couple of them complimented on how great the tone was. ...and that they have never heard of Sadowsky. It's like driving a Ferrari and people wondering why you aren't sporting a Honda Accord.
