Club Sadowsky!!!

Good time for a family picture post. I could easily see that blue pj added...

Red... on the right... the only red, in the smoke filled room we both occupied... I gave her a casual glance, realizing she was doing the same...

... it was at that moment I became aware I was looking in the mirror, at myself... the true horror being the feather boa I wore was clashing with my oxford pumps.

Red is not going anywhere! My first love!

So this ended up in my possession a couple of days ago.... this bass may look familiar to more than one of you.... ;)

I happened to inquire with @Holdsg about a possible trade after missing out on this bass **twice** in the classifieds. Luck would be on my side and we came up with a deal! I'm really gonna miss the Metro I traded away, but this bass hits all the good spots and more. Is it possible to say I no longer have G.A.S. for any more basses? Hard to believe but between the Satin JJ5, the VW5, and now this bad boy.... I am literally covered for just about anything. This will be my new number one for punk/hard rock - the tight, focused tone is what i've been searching for - for a really long time.

Can anyone here tell me about the older model Sadowky Modern soapbar pickups - the ones that are EMG 40 DC sized?

This video demonstrates what these pickups sound like:

This is my absolute favorite bass tone ever. However, the new ones - with the Bartolini P2 size - don't sound like this at all. The newer pickups sound great too... but to my ears there just something special about these older ones. There is a crisp, burpiness and warmth that appeals to me.
Just curious, are the original ones made by EMG? Are there currently EMG soapbars that sound like this?

I believe you can also hear them on this demo:

Anyone know the stock pickup heights for the Modern 5's? I can't find that anywhere..

Ha, I wondered who ended up with that bass! I was drooling over it for several days there.

You need to take some credit.. The tone you had in your video of your R5-24 helped push me in this direction. I've been itching for a Modern 5 since you posted that...

Hey guys, need some advice. Thinking on either a 5-21 or a Will Lee 5... Any experience with the differences between the two? I know about the neck shape and pickups, but I’m thinking about a Super J so they’ll both be humcancelling anyways. I’m not entirely sold on the Will Lee’s body shape, call me conceited... unless it’s more comfortable. Then I'm all in. Didn’t get to try a Will Lee when I visited last year, hope to try some when I visit in March however.
