Is anyone here using a Modern 5 for Reggae? My Verdine 5 is my go-to but I've been doing some goofing around at home and the Modern can get pretty thick with the right EQ. I may bring this one out next time around. Just curious if anyone else is on that path...

Joeykun - kind of an off-topic question... I just started wearing prescription eyeglasses, but I haven't worn them on-stage with in-ear monitors yet... anything to it, is it an issue, etc.? Sorry, weird question, I know, I just saw that in your photo...
Back on topic... my band has had a slower winter but is gearing up for a big spring and summer. We got a spot at our local PrideFest in May which will be a huge day, very excited. And I am still in love with my two Satin J-basses (both 2018's, both blue, one alder/morado, one ash/maple). They are definitely a little different sounding, but both are awesome. I don't have any recent photos, but will find one and throw it on here just to be fully on topic.
So of the two awesome basses which one is your preferred tone of the two.
Just very curious as both of my Sadowsky's are alder / morado.

Aston Barrett used a regular Fender Jazz. I do the occasional Reggae gig and I just use my Sadowsky RV5. There is plenty of low end to be had.
I’m IEM with glasses and it’s no problem at all. Cables outside the spec arms and your good to go whether wire arms or chunky wayfarer style.
Yeah I've done that as well. I prefer the tone from the Verdine 5 with my playing style for the reggae I do. Lately at home I've been digging the Modern 5 thickness. I'm just curious if anyone is specifically using a Modern 5 for reggae, as I'd love to hear some examples.

Hey hey, yeah the eyes were the first to go once I hit 50! I’ve had zero issues with the IEM cords behind the ears though. I use 64Audio IEMs. They have a nice loop for the ear and the sleeve on the cords to tighten up behind your head. Never been an issue.

Guitar stand update for you guys and THANKS for your input!
Soooo, I have the Gator guitar stand and my cat is afraid of it. LOL! She does not like the sound (when she steps on it) or feel of the padding inside. I trust my $$$$ basses inside it. It's pretty nice actually for a copy of the super nice Ultracase.
Let your kitty know, it's not being replaced by another furry creature...

I like the alder/morado a little better. It seems to have a little more mids. I haven't done any recording, so it's just my impression. Also, it's just one data point... could just be these two individual basses.... They definitely each have their own character, but both are Sadowsky sound. I like the look of a maple board better personally, but I like the sound of my alder/morado and I like the visibility of the side dots on the morado on a dark stage. YMMV.
If I was giging or recording Reggae, I would without a doubt take my Modern. With 2 of those Sadowsky Soapbars at the bridge you've got a really tight and defined low end, with punching mids. Do it!

We still try to sell most of our NYC Custom built basses direct and our Satin Series in direct sale only. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Our dealers mostly carry MetroLine, MetroExpress and our Deluxe Satin Series. Some NYC Custom builds can be found at Bass San Diego, Corner Music Nashville and Bass Club Chicago.
