I need some help here guys...I'm asking here b/c its about my Sadowsky other wise I would put it in the setup forum.
I'm trying to lower my action and I keep running into issues. I've always done my own setups with good success, I do understand how everything works in relation.
I am constantly getting buzz in between the 7th- 9th to about the 12th frets. I've got the neck straight, maybe too straight, but even with some relief it still buzzes in this area.
Any suggestions?!?!
BTW..I have read Rogers setup instructions, G Willis instructions, etc. I'm confident in what I'm doing but its just not right.

Does it go away if you raise the saddles a bit? At those frets, I don't think it is the relief that is the issue. It could be that uneven fret wear is limiting how low you can go with the saddles.
Thanks! I am lucky - for a whole host of other reasons though like my wife, kids, and health. I am happy though to have some fun gear to play. These latest two really are a blast!
The bass was actually a one off that Roger did back in 2003 for Vashon Johnson. I stumbled into it by accident a couple of years ago.

It varies a little bit. I have two NYC's. Both are Nitro (I guess all the NYC's are nitro). My RV5 feels and looks just like classic Nitro.. shiny, glossy, and it's mellowing a bit now after three or four years. This is how most of the NYC's I've played feel and look.
Interestingly, the recent NYC MV5 I purchased has the 'vintage tint' Nitro, and it looks and feels more like tung oil... very flat finish, smooth... closer to a thin coat satin poly than 'classic Nitro', but with a bit of that natural oil type feel.
Roger posted a while back that different batches of Nitro (and I assume the tint, etc.) can result in some variation in the feel, but that over a moderate amount of time, they well get more similar.
My guess is, yours will be the classic, shiny, old school nitro feel and look. I think my MV is a slight outlier. Both necks feel GREAT!
Thanks Bob....saddles are raised between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way, which is unusually high for any setup I have done.
Fret wear....I think you are spot on...I did not mention the fret wear I can see at that area albeit its not very much, I was unsure if that was really a factor. Looks like a fret job is in order.

All necks are sprayed with a Flat Satin Nitro Finish. Vintage Tint is an option if you wanted a darker Brown Tint to it.... They will "buff" up ( to a gloss ) over time with regular playing.

Sounds like the neck is to straight, make sure you have some relief in the neck.

Nitro is an interesting beast. My RV was VERY glossy when it arrived, and is now, after a few years, getting more of a satin sheen, shiny but very smooth. My MV was very 'dull' and tung oil like when I got it, but is now starting to develop a more 'satin poly' type feel... nothing like the almost mirror gloss of my RV.
I again think my MV is a bit of an outlier. Not sure why it's so different from most of the other NYC's I've played.

Depending on when the Basses were built, there might have been different Mixures of nitro being used, which could be the difference in the outcome.
Was your RV new or used when purchased?
Your MV was New and is what most/all necks feel like now.

Both new. Cool... I actually prefer the more satin feel of my MV, and as you mention, it is 'glossing up a bit' now that I have some hours on it. Roger mentioned that nitro can vary a bit among batches, so that must be it.
Interestingly, my RV nitro neck feel is virtually identical to the Alleva nitro finished bass that I recently got... almost a 'glass like' finish.
