Club Sadowsky!!!

I sent a bunch of emails over the course of a few weeks...
emails are never ever as good as calling them on the phone... especially if you want a quick response. I'd strongly urge you to call them immediately and have an actual conversation with them.

Okay, Ill try calling. Its a lot harder to call during the day due to work, but Ill try and figure out a time that I can.
fwiw, you're central time and they're eastern, so the 1 hour offset should at least help, regarding lunch times, break times, etc..

I sent a bunch of emails over the course of a few weeks. Sent to the customer service email, as well as Roger, Carl, and Will's addresses. I did get one response back from Will eventually that said they Roger or Carl would contact me eventually, but that was sometime ago.

I had anticipated it would be a few week turn around, but now I'm starting to worry this is a few month affair, in which case I would have asked for a refund since I've never gotten to use the bass. I dont want to get anyone in trouble, I just am trying to figure out what I need to do, since I have more gigs coming up. If its going to be months, I need to get my Fender worked on a.s.a.p. by a local tech so that it will at least be ready.

I've had this same issue with emails -- sent several queries to various addresses and no response yet. I don't have an urgent problem and know the company has excellent customer service overall, but it's a bit frustrating.

I see folks have advised you to call, and I guess I'll end up doing that. It's harder for me to carve out that time.

Anyway, good luck with your quest!

Guess I’m not the only one having a hard time getting a response by e-mail. I did end up calling today, and was able to speak briefly with Will. Unfortunately,
all I could be told was more of the same that someone will let me know eventually about the repair. If you have a simple question it would prob be worth it to call though since it does seem like you will get through to a human on the other end. I also will add that the times that I have gotten a response from Roger (mostly a few weeks ago) he was very courteous and wanted to make things right. I just wish I wasn’t in the dark on what to me was a huge purchase.

I have emailed Carl 3-4 times about different stock “off the rack” basses I was considering buying over the last year or so, I still have never received a reply to any of those emails. Usually what I was interested in was sold before I could get any answers to questions I had about them. I have called and spoken to Will, he was very polite and helpful. I have also called Carl, he has always seemed “Busy” when I have called. So I guess it depends on when you call, and how busy they are at the moment. E-Mail seems to be basically worthless for the most part.

I did end up buying a Will Lee NYC, but I just bought it and sorted it out by phone after purchase. I made the purchase during NAMM so waited until the following week and called them and made sure everything was the way I wanted it. It took about 2-1/2 weeks to arrive, but they were at NAMM for a few days of that. Roger also goes over and to does final set up on all basses, so that takes a few days also. The bass did arrive “perfect out of the box” the playability is incredible. They did email a receipt within a few days of purchase, then a tracking number after shipment.

I am seriously thinking about getting a custom build, it will be interesting to see how that process works exactly. Most folks seem to have no trouble on custom builds with the exception of the year wait for the bass to be completed, but custom takes time.

If it’s been a couple of months, depending on the damage, maybe they are building you a new bass or portion of one. From everything I’ve seen or heard, Roger seems to be of the upmost integrity, so I would take that into consideration. Hopefully it gets resolved for you soon. I will say Sadowsky builds an exceptional quality, fit and finish bass. Roger and his team are incredible craftsmen, but you have to be patient with them they don’t rush things.

Here's my understanding, explained crudely. Corrections/clarifications welcome.

Pretty sure VTC is last. Putting a passive tone after an active preamp brings output impedance closer to passive, which means that cable capacitance again becomes a factor (it isn't on low impedance buffered active circuits). In other words, a passive tone control makes an active bass sound less active (less upper treble) even when it isn't rolled back -- a good thing IMO (emphasis on the O).

As for a plot: well, the VTC (Vintage Tone Control) is a standard passive tone control. These can vary in response depending on the values of the components, but they behave pretty similarly: variable LPF.

Thanks for the info, when you say standard passive tone control do you mean precision standard where there is a resonant hump? Thanks

Yes. I overlooked that, but Vic caught it in his subsequent post:

...but with an emerging low mid bump depending on values of things and the amount of roll-off.

IMHO, this is almost as significant of an "effect" as the high end attenuation WRT tone. This is why I personally prefer to have a VTC in an active bass even if it doesn't support passive mode operation.

There's threads on this all over the place, including here, but I thought this one was good...

I am really excited to finally "Gig test" the new Sadowsky Ash/Maple ME5 tomorrow and Saturday! I got rained out the first time I was going to gig with it. Full gig report will be forthcoming. This venue, however, is a sonic nightmare. But I know how to get a decent stage sound usually, so even though it may not be magical in the house mix, I will gather some good data for myself on stage.

Say, Roger & Co, does the recent CITES exemption of restrictions of transporting rosewood on musical instruments have any bearing on your use of morado vs rosewood at this point? My prediction is that you've grown accustomed to morado and it's an uncontroversial tonewood, so why change now. But I had to ask, as I know Sadowsky was vocal about the change several years ago.

Does anyone know a general time frame for warranty repairs? I purchased a new Sadowsky back in July that arrived broken. I sent it back for repair a few days after receiving it, and can't get a response from Sadowsky as far as a timeline. I've been trying for a couple weeks to get an answer to no avail.

Pm me or email me at [email protected]. I’ve been out at Yellowstone all week with limited reception but I’ll see what I can do.

I’m sure the team at the shop is busy, but I have to say... I’ve NEVER, EVER seen customer service like I have today from the Sadowsky folks... A few threads back I mentioned that I purchased my first Sadowsky, a Satin Series 4-21... I received a call today from Carl letting me know they noticed a minor paint blemish and offered to make it right... Carl sent extensive pictures documenting the paint blemish and they’re taking care of it in a way that I think is equivalent and I couldn’t be happier. Top notch team, I’m more happy about my decision to buy a Sadowsky than any decision I’ve made (well, gear wise!).

I talked to Carl and we were able to connect with Chris and take care of this.

Thanks again for everyone’s patience! You’d be shocked at the volume of emails and calls the shop gets. We do our best to respond to them all. Please pm or email me if you don’t hear back.
