maybe, maybe not. i think one of the problems Roger was having was keeping up with orders, which should be solved by the Warwick deal. I feel like the Japanese MEs will be generally hard to find... and even harder as time goes on. They're really legit basses. I'm super glad I jumped on mine when I did.

Yeah - I’d been looking for weeks and checked all of the US dealers, but no one has had an ash/maple 5 string ME in stock. I checked the Japanese sites listed above and did find one 5 string, but not in ash/maple and with the added complication of currency exchange and shipping from Japan I decided to just go for the NYC Satin Deluxe I’d had my eye on. With the scarcity of the Japanese ME’s, I’m sure that the NYC Satins are also going to be tough to find soon since they won’t be built going forward, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

I’d be surprised if any ME other than what’s already out there become available until the Warwick models show up. I think we may have seen the last of the Japanese ones

So I have a couple NYCs and now a ME, but I've been wanting to get a Metro for a while now. Found a NOS 2018 ash maple PJ5 on Reverb for a good price and pulled the trigger. I'm also going to commission a 2020 40th anniversary NYC custom. That should "wrap" my pre-warwick collection nicely.

Not nervous, but anytime a product gets discontinued there will be a sense of scarcity. That being said, the one element that pushed me over the edge of pulling the trigger on the Deluxe Satin now was that I wanted an ash/maple Sadowsky 5 coming in at right around 8 lbs, and that weight spec may be tougher to find in the future without getting an NYC Custom.

I don't think nervous, at least in terms of being concerned about the new products. I'm sure they'll be absolutely great (UNlike the Gibson/Tobias debacle!). But there'll always be the people who want the "originals" for whatever personal reasons. That's really more my thing. I'm actually excited about the new stuff, and can't wait to see/play it. I just (also) want to have at least one great example of all the previous stuff. That's all.

TBD, but no worries, when I get it figured out, I'll post up for whomever may be interested. It'll be a 5 string tho.

In all reality the scarcity has been there for a while. Of course now that the supply of ME basses has stopped temporarily, it's a little more so. I had been looking for a Metro MV5 through October and November before the announcement was made and it was pretty hard to find anything at any of the dealers that I was interested in. The Japan tsunami and warehouse fire certainly didn't help matters. I had even started to talk myself into taking a finish that was kind of far down my list but then a used NYC came along and I couldn't pass it up.

Also, and I’m just trying to get the full perspective here, did demand for Metros finally exceed the output of the Japan shop? I get it that Roger is focusing his NYC shop on custom work. That has mostly been that way for a while. So, I’m trying to get a feel for whether the transition to Warwick was a business deal or a business necessity.

Just a thought for today, reading another post here about buying a bass (non Sadowsky content) that the OP has played or ordering the same bass sight unseen for a lower price. How different could they be? One comment was “I never bought a bass that I didn’t have in my hands.”
It just reminded me of the many basses I have bought online, and they’re all gone now. Just didn’t fit for one reason or another. All disappointments. The one exception was a custom build from Roger’s one time Brooklyn neighbor. That one was perfection. And then there’s my Sadowskys. Some I bought out of their shop, some were orders, some were pre-owned but I was never disappointed with one of them. That says a lot about the dedication of Roger and company, and the consistency in his basses.
That’s why I’ve finally come to my senses and will now play only Sadowskys. I have an NYC custom build , a Satin Deluxe and a new Satin build on the way. I think I’m covered for a while.

I think in both cases they make other products, so probably just discontinuing that one line is all.

Roger will have to answer this, but I think this is just him offloading the complicated international and consumer stuff to an organization better suited to deal with it, while preserving his desire to stay involved at the sweet level, and still getting recurring income from the brand he built through that licensing deal.

My take is that the issue was distribution and not production. Not that there was a problem with distribution before -- might be a matter of going from "very good" to "best possible".

Again, I'm not speaking for Sadowsky & Co, just passing along my understanding of what's been said.
