Feel wise they're pretty much the same. The NYC was made in 2011 and the nitro on the neck is a little glossy but it plays fast. Nothing like a lacquer finished neck by any means. The best way I can describe the NYC is it's very alive and just sits perfectly in a mix.
The VW is very punchy but it smooths out with the VTC and I roll it off quite a bit more over the NYC. After Friday's gig I'll know about it in a mix. I'd actually say it has more of a modern tone to it. It's more similar tone wise to my satin J but the split coil definitely does it's thing vs the J. The NYC has HC's but I know they're different from 2011 to now. I am glad all 3 are different, gives me an excuse to keep all 3...
Silver Burst Satin series I had made. Received it a little over a year ago in Dec. '18. It's a beast. =D
Great color choice. I was very torn on getting this finish for my Verdine build. My deciding factor was that I felt the finish looks better with a pickguard which I couldn't get for the Verdine. Yours is perfect!
Thanks! I was going for something that was unique but not too flashy...for a minute I actually had buyers remorse and had wished I had just gone with black, but that didn't last for too long. Been eyeing those Verdine models for a while...and the moderns too. My poor savings account.
I have a 2009 NYC P5 and it does the same thing. I believe it's just the design-not an issue.

My local supply of Sadowsky strings has dried up so before I order a box and have them sent over the border I thought I try some different strings for fun and looking for some recommendations. I have a Metro RSV5 J bass and a VW satin deluxe. I've tries all the Sadowsky strings except for the flats and liked the Blue Steels best for the mid punch. The nickels were a little too dark on the J bass for my taste.
Has anybody used D'Addario tape wounds on the VW?

Folks around here were singing the praises of the VW + Blue Label flats combo not so long ago. It has me intrigued because I love the Sadowsky flats, but I have yet to break away from putting my favorite rounds (DR Lo-Riders) on my VW. Would be hard to go wrong with almost anything on that instrument!
No tapes, but definitely flats on my two Verdines. Just my preference.
i just recently put some flats on my older nyc j5 with singles... holy crap that sounds better than i thought it would.
Similar issue when I move the blend knob. I normally go 'full P', but when I do blend it center or favor the JPup, I get the same thing. Snap crackle pop.
I'm ignorant of electronics, but curious to know if you're actually on to something here.
That's where I was leaning.
I'm not an engineer, but I believe it's the sound of a capacitor discharging. On my bass, it doesn't happen when there's no signal (note being played) present.
No Tapes, but another vote for the Blue label flats on the VW. I prefer the Light version. My other Sadowsky basses I use D'addario XL170's with a taperwound .130 B string.
Here's a video clip from last weekend, it sounds killer through monitors or headphones - the Verdine is Big and Proud!!! The artist Al Scholl, he started the painting as we started the show. Three sets later that was the product. We ended up buying it from him for our studio, the final version is unreal.
Regarding the recent posts about pot noise.....
I personally check every pot for noise when I do my final inspection. I boost the treble control to max so I can hear these issues better.
The most important thing is to spray the pots. I still find the Lectricare spray we sell to be the best solution as it is a conductive cleaner. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I would be interested to hear if some or all of these noise issues go away if you still have a hand on a string or the bridge. It is possible that the shielding has deteriorated over time and the control cavity needs to be re-shielded.
