Not gonna lie. I'd probably take out a loan with guy's named 'Joey' if that was an option. That particular PJ5 has some of that special sauce in it.
Been doing some gigging in the living room lately, and I have a small tour of the master bedroom, hallway, and laundry nook coming up in a couple days. The Verdine is getting the call for this run, only bringing one cab though. Still trying to figure out why my fuel costs are through the roof, but I'm confident we'll make it to the master bedroom before soundcheck.

Yeah, the only thing I wish your/our bass had is a reverse P option. I'll just hang onto this P/J until I get one.
Interesting. I set that bass up with flats and it always had a killer B-string. I always say that the pitch clarity/fullness of Low Eb walking down to that low B is where I'm willing to spend an extra grand or so. All of these 'OMG this budget bass is equal to a hi-end Sadowsky/Alleva Coppolo' fall short on those last 5 notes, IMO. Not unusable, but being spoiled with Roger's handiwork, I always can tell.
Whenever I check a potential new bass out first thing I do is start on low G and work down. I had a Squier once and swapped a Duncan pickup in and that's the main area I heard the difference.
Having said that, I purchased my Sadowsky J4 and J5 'sight unseen' based on what you guys were saying. You did the work for me!

I got that question more. Yesterday i had the original strings on it, to piano bright for me. So I put elixir super lights on it. Works better for me.
I agree this is where an extra grand is well spent, along with the absence of dead spots (around 5th fret of G string) and wolf tones (around 12th fret of B string). I don't like workarounds to avoid dud notes. That being said, is that level of consistency and quality control available with the Metro line or is that what you get (other than prettier wood) with the upgrade to NYC?
All Sadowsky basses are great, I had 12 and played more. I cannot say that the nyc basses are always better.

That alder/rw really has that spread to the low end, and I REALLY like the smooth hi end that still has some 'ping' to it ... but not the 'gank' I hear in Pau Ferro. I mean, the player has a little to do with it, but still. I had an alder/brazilian-like RW fretboard with the Alleva Coppolo LG5 I had during recent pre-corona GAS-trading, and it was pretty close to my J-bass ideal, but I kept wishing it had that extra glass and @$$ that Roger's PRE has in spades.

Ebony board willgive you more focused tone in the mid range and hence you may find less board sounding in the bottom relatively, more zing compare with rosewood. Personally, never liked the tone of Ebony fretted fingerboard, always preferred more tradtional wood combo. My 2 cents.
