In the FWIW category...

Having not a whole lot else to do yesterday, I pulled out my Bergantino NV610T, plopped my Demeter VTBP-201 / QSC PLX1804 racks on top of it; and plugged a few basses in. Really good; no, great basses. Just your standard COVID isolation uninspired type of activity. At least I wasn’t dying.

Anyhow, the WAY YUUUUGE thing I discovered was that into a legit big rig, my NYC 4-24 is probably the finest sounding bass guitar I have ever had the privilege to play. No, that understates it. The moment was literally angels singing, heavenly lights flashing, and the Stanley Cup 2nd sudden death overtime goal buzzer coming on all at the same time. Well, at least that’s close, if a touch hyperbolic.

What I mean to say is that the lights truly came on for me with Roger’s whole chambered design. Previously, I’ve mainly gigged the bass into either Ampless signal chains or smaller 212 at most clubbing amps. Which doesn’t really capture the whole chambered resonance thing. And, to be honest, I was still undecided about that aspect of the build. This being my 4th Sadowsky, but my first chambered build, I just hadn’t been too sure what to think about it.

No more. That chambered 4-24 into a big rig just flat out nails everything I’ve ever hoped for with a Jazz bass and then some. Chalk me up to converted. I have swallowed the kool-aid, and it tastes amazing. I think I’m ruined forever.

There have been no reviews because there has been no production yet. The China factory is closed and the Warwick factory in Germany is closed.

I figured that was the case, someone earlier implied that there had in fact been reviews. I suspect what they were actually seeing were product announcements from NAMM

The new BP and Bass Magazine (online) and Bass Gear Magazine (online) all do excellent, thorough reviews.
The British magazines do much better reviews than US ones.

I like Bass Magazine. It keeps the legacy of Bass Player from years ago. Maybe I'm showing my age but I like the writers like Jisi, Roberts, Friedland, etc.

I've had a subscription to Bass Player for the last two years since it was absorbed by Guitar World and I rarely even open it when it arrives. Something about it just feels soulless to me, but that's why we have choices after all.

I do not have a "cheap" line. What I do have is a less expensive MetroExpress that will be made in China. Given the COVID19 situation, I don't think we will see any production until the summer. I will personally be inspecting the first production run. If I don't go to China, I will inspect them upon their arrival at the Nashville warehouse.

Hah! When I worked in the US and used the word 'cheap', as I would in the UK, I often upset people and was told I really meant 'inexpensive'.
Most Merriam-Webster definitions of 'cheap' aren't flattering at all.
The US and the UK, two countries divided by one language (I stole that quote).

No. I haven't seen any, and that's not the way we do them anyway. We'll wait for first available production models and do the usual high quality lab and live reviews at Bass Gear Magazine. I'm hoping I'll get to do at least one of them.

I picked up this Metro PJ-5 recently and it is really nice. All my gigs that I’ve had since getting it have been canceled unfortunately. But..I’ve been playing along with Spotify and made a vid with my band using it, and it sounds so great. I’ll share the vid once it’s done. In the meantime, here’s a pic!

That looks a lot like my old bass!! Did you pick it up here on the classifieds? The yellow spots on the PG right next to the P pup just about match my old one...

Edit: If it is... I loved that bass. Used it on a couple tours. Great reggae bass. There a pic in an Irie magazine spread with me playing it.

This Satin Series 5-21 Vintage is on its way to me now. Very excited about owning my first Sadowsky! I have a tortoise pickguard coming with it, which I’ll use. My main players will now be a Lakland USA P bass and this Sadowsky J Bass. Roger is a fantastic person to do business with, by the way.

My new Satin came in earlier today. I put on the tort guard, set up the bass to my preferences, and spent a few hours playing it. It’s amazing all around! I love the tone, it feels and plays great, it looks great, and it’s built very well. I’m mucho happy with my purchase! I’m trying to figure out which strings came on it. They’re Blue Labels, and seem to be medium gauge. I’m not sure if they’re the nickel or stainless steel though. They sound really good, whichever they are.
