I have Sadowsky J4 and J5 as my main basses but I like to play cheaper 'period' basses as well. I have a Fender Japan CIJ '62 RI Jazz and a CIJ '57 RI Precision (anodised guard) as well as some others.
When I need some 'oomph' I just plug the outboard pedal in. Like the onboards, it has 'oomph' to spare.

I have this beauty on its way, probably shipping today:

It’s kind of tough to spend that money without a try but this fall I was in NYC and tried a satin deluxe and was blown away.
I hope this feels and sounds as that one, IMHO value for money of the satin is really interesting. Plus that finish is soooo classy!

looking forward to see what she can do

Hard to argue against this recommendation! :cool:

My only quibbles would be there is no VTC on the pedal, and it's one more pedal to bring to the gig.

Anyway, this was thinking out loud as much as anything. Thanks for the thoughts...

monkeyland is right. the vtc is already where it needs to be... in the bass, and i get the extra pedal thing, but i still feel like it'd be worth it for the added versatility, and the ability to not modify the bass... potentially in an not easily reversible way. fwiw.

i don't think so... imho, actually the opposite (if anything). think of them as two separate generations of the product line. they'll have the same heart and soul, but will still be somewhat different instruments.

not sure if i agree on your general availability comment, but i could be wrong. all i know is, we'll be VERY interested to get one in, and i consider other earlier reviews to be "preliminary" because i don't think any of those early models were normal production basses... i think they were more prototypes. i welcome correction as needed from Roger on that tho.

I do not have a "cheap" line. What I do have is a less expensive MetroExpress that will be made in China. Given the COVID19 situation, I don't think we will see any production until the summer. I will personally be inspecting the first production run. If I don't go to China, I will inspect them upon their arrival at the Nashville warehouse.

Do you know how many "articles and reviews" are written where the writer never even touches the product? I can't say regarding musical instruments but I used to have a friend that was a publisher for a magazine that covered music/movies/books. Often times movies would get reviewed and all the reviewer had is a press sheet outlining the plot and the official trailer. Maybe someone sees a bass at NAMM, takes some notes, refers back to the spec sheet and an article is born. That person probably didn't get to sit down and spend hours playing the instrument in a controlled environment, and definitely didn't get to take it on a gig. Thats one thing that I loved about reviews in the old days of Bass Player mag was that they told you exactly what they did with the instrument. I'm not saying that's the case regarding any Sadowsky press, but I've also not seen any in depth reviews of the Warwick MetroExpress basses.

I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new MetroExpress instruments. I greatly look forward to having an instrument to take to hot and sweaty beach side gigs that is similar to my NYC and Metroline basses.

Do you know if the fretless offerings will have an unlined fingerboard? It would make sense since the Warwick fretless are all unlined

You mean you can't do an adequate review of a bass and how it will perform in a gigging environment at the NAMM show? It's just like a gig, there is the din of conversation at 110db, 65 drum solo's going on in the room next store, and 20 guitar players playing "eruption" and bass player from another band slapping a 210 BPM version of "Roller Coaster" in the next booth over. I don't understand why you couldn't do a thorough review in that situation. :bassist::cool:

I know, it seems absurd that they would even try, yet often times when I read the reviews in articles from the current BP and other magazines/websites I get the feeling that they never even touched the gear at all.

There have been no reviews because there has been no production yet. The China factory is closed and the Warwick factory in Germany is closed.
