Club Sadowsky!!!

attachment.jpg

Never tried a pickup reversal. Does it make much of a difference?

OK Jonathan, two things:
1) you better still have my old Sadowsky I sold you years ago
2) I'd gladly trade you my current one for it back:

I'll hit you in a PM too!!;)

I going to have a bass built and I need some input on whether to have black binding or white on a ebony fretboard with pearl blocks. The body will most likely be black pearl with matching headstock and a white pearl pickguard.
I'm thinking black because it will blend with the fboard and it won't turn yellow over time.
Thanks

is that the one from Corner Music in Nashville? if so, I played it when it was there and it is a sweet bass. wish I would have had the cash to bag it. If not, they had one identical to that one there.

Yes indeed it is the same bass!! So...how was it? I actually bought it without playing it. I already have an NYC 5 JJ. and am a huge fan of Rogers work and I felt like this would be a nice addition and a very versitle instrument. I may send it up to Jay st to have Roger do a reverse on it, and make another guard. Im sure the routing would also be big enough at that point that I could also put a jazz pup in there also. THat would be versitile!!! LOL. My JJ5 is kinda pretty, so it doesnt fit into all situations....thats why I also liked the black. this is my JJ5.........

Actually...I really like the Black Cherry Tort idea. But...the all black look is looking pretty tough to me right now. thats the beauty of a guard. you can totally change the look with a few screws. I might just have to get them all!!!!!!!!:hyper:

You bet I've still got the Cherryburst single coil JJ, Mike. That's been my main gigging fiver for some time. Along with warmth and nice mids, it's got a crispness with new strings that I feel in my spine. It's always sounded spectacular. I expected the Burst PJ to replace it as my main axe, and it's a great sounding bass, but I've never come to grips with the PJ combination, preferring either a plain p-bass or single coil jazz.

I'm not ready to part with it, since I regularly gig and record it, though I'm playing mostly 4 strings and letting go some of my other fivers and replacing them with 4's. Also added a pair of big Mike's ABG's and his long time 40's Kay.

If I let the Cherryburst go, you will have first shot, as long as we both live.

Best Aloha,

Jonathan

Man...it's a great bass. the neck felt amazing. like a really cool broke in pair of your favorite jeans. the P pickup sounded flipping huge. I demo'd it against a Lull PJ5, Sadowsky MV5, and a fender P5 all through an Ampeg SVT4 Pro and 610 cab. It hands down was the best one. The Sadowsky MV5 was a very close second, but didn't quite have the beef that P pickup put out. And I am also very much in the market for P5 or PJ5...so my opinion was a little biased too. I just wish it would have had a set of fresh strings on it. But even with fairly dead strings, it still sounded and played like a million bucks. I think you'll be pretty happy with it. Congrats on the purchase BTW!

I have not done this...I would ask the question..Why would one WANT to do this?

I know it's going against the grain... Modern, higher-mass, "higher-quality" bridges give a more even tone, and more sustain. In the process though I think they take away some of the attack and lessen the effect of the body resonance on the final tone.

Anyway, I love the feel and frequency response of my Sadowsky with the Nordstrand NJ5's. It's already my main bass. But...

There is a quality of attack in my Fender that I would love to have in the Sadowsky. I figure if I can swap in a low-mass bridge without altering (drilling) the body in any way, I might be able to fine-tune the way the attack feels without altering the parts of the tone I like. If not, I can swap back.

Basically I am trying to get the best of all worlds (for my personal tastes) out of this one bass... I'm almost there.

Just placed my order for my NYC PJ5:

NYC Vintage Style
Jazz Alder body
Brazilian RW fingerboard
Chrome hardware
Black finish
Tort guard + add. black guard
Nordstrand PUs (reverse P)
1 3/4" nut
Schaller strap locks

I guess it's gonna be a very long wait....

The worst part is right after you place the order; after a few days you kind of forget about it until you get close to the end of the wait, then man, then you check your email every freakin hour waiting for the magic email from Kevin. :)

By the way, are you sure about the schaller strap locks? if you haven't tried the dual Dunlops that come standard on NYCs you should, they are IMO much better than the schallers.
