Hmmm. Weighed 34 pounds, 5 ounces...just like a ‘70s boat anchor!
Yeah I own both a M5-24 and a KS BSRMW, totally different beasts. I love the mids on the M5-24 but when you use the eq all you get is bass and treble and the bass can get muddy. A modern bass in my opinion has to have mids. KS has mids, MTD has mids, Fodera has mids and Elrick has mids.
Some may think buying a Sad and geting rid of the pre amp is a crime but for a modern bass I personally found it limiting. Even the Will Lee Sad has a mid switch. I changed the pre amp to make it hopefully more like my KS and it worked. I love my Sad M5-24, the tight construction, the slick neck with the Duncan PUs. But the John East Uni-Pre was definitly an upgrade in my personal opinion.

There are a lot of songs where the M5-24 nails the tone! I play alot of funk and dance and both PUs nail the tone but I also play rock with a few friends and the neck PU just kills.
Not a crime, just implementing a different flavor. Contrary to your experience, I absolutely dug the Sadowsky pre in my Modern 5 with soaps. The VTC (subtractive EQ highs) was key in shaping tone, including mids.
For me, the Sadowsky pre is simple to use, sweet sounding, and extremely effective, especially in context of using an always-on adjustable high pass filter (subtractive EQ lows). Never underestimate the value of using an HPF to adjust and clear the mud out of almost any room or circumstance. Otherwise, just adding mids to mud rarely helps, IME.
Sidebar: The stock Bart NTMB 3-band (w/adj mid bands) in my favorite modern 5-string bass is being bumped for a Sadowsky pre with VTC. It was purchased online at the Sadowsky shop a few days ago, arriving yesterday. I'm stoked to give it a try.

Just got a little teaser the other day from the Sadowsky shop thanks to Ellis. My body recently back from spraying. Ordered way back on 12/20/19, one of the last NYC Satin orders. This one will be a Vintage 4-21 Jazz in Vintage Shoreline Gold, Morado board with white blocks and Sadowsky single coils. And of course, a Tortoise pick guard. After a Covid-19 delay, we're back on the clock. Needless to say, I'm a bit psyched.
Brass ones are still there. You can buy them with or without a Warwick bass attached to them..
My first gig in the age of Covid was a success - coming out of the gate with over 4 hours of music was a workout, but man I appreciated every single second of it - more than ever before. That old saying is true, you don't realize how much you love something until it's gone. I took a few pics so you could get an idea of what the scene looked like. Overall it was a total blast. Just happy to provide an outlet/escape for people - even if for just a few hours.
I did have a weird thing happen - I threw a new battery in my Verdine before the gig - it tested 9.6v on my multimeter. Within three songs I was having massive volume spikes and drops. Freaked me out a little - haven't gigged in months, lol... I bought a new battery and had no issue for the rest of the night. Is this an issue worth digging into more or should I chalk it up as a bum battery? Just curious what you all thought. ANYWAY, we took a ton of footage, I'll try to get a clip up in a day or so.
Here's what the outside looked like for dining - this is a music venue so the food is being provided by the restaurant next door.
And the view from the stage before we started (that's my drummer at the bar, guests were only allowed to use the restroom one person at a time - masked of course).
You just know good music is made here....
and a stage shot - a local band Grateful Dead cover band does a weekly livestream here (my drummer is in that band as well) so they just leave all their gear set up.. we set up in front. Made for a pretty fun backdrop though...

I love Winstons. I cant even count how many times I've played there over the last 25 years or so. It was like a second home at one point, lolol..
I appreciate the offer, but no. I would not use maple for a body wood, just a lam top. And I am very picky about my lamtops having exceptional figure!.
Gotcha, understood although he was willing to slice it down into laminate ish stock but I hear you loud and clear about your exceptional figure stuff. That’s a spectacular sample pic.
Shout-out to @maurilio, who quickly sorted some electronic gremlins in my sweet sunburst Metroline HPJ yesterday, for a modest sum. Mo is a most valuable resource for Sadowsky players who live far from NYC (or TYO). Thank you sir!
